It’s been an eventful couple years for Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory. Surviving the dual ignominy of a prospective sale (that never went through) and the first Australian performance by Lady Gaga, the Darlinghurst venue will celebrate its second birthday with a free party on August 21.
Adelaide’s Leader Cheetah will headline an eclectic bill that includes The Protectors, Papa Vs Pretty, Sticky Fingers, The Domestics, Halal How Are You?, Megastick Fanfare and “supergroup” Fashion Launches Rocket Launches (comprising members of Mercy Arms, Lost Valentinos and the Midnight Juggernauts).
Situated on Oxford Street in Darlinghurst, the multi-room venue is based on Andy Warhol’s famed Factory in the 1960s. It comprises The Gallery, a smaller side bar that recently installed a permanent PA, and The Live Art Space, which has hosted international acts. It was listed for sale by Colliers International Hotels and Leisure in March, but was later taken off the market.
