Kicking Against the Pictures

You could be forgiven for thinking You Am I gunslinger Davey Lane had quietly moved on from his other band, The Pictures, given their relative obscurity since releasing Kicking Indifference earlier this year. It ain’t so however and tonight in Melbourne Lane and compatriot Luke Thomas return to the stage for a free July residency at Brunswick’s Retreat Hotel. The band will be supported by Dallas Crane/Gun Street Girls drinking buddy Dave Larkin for all shows.
Proving that this appearance isn’t just something to do while Timmy Rogers pursues other, more important dreams, The Pictures head up to Sydney next month with two shows in Bondi, including one supported by another vanishing act, former Next Big Things Ghostwood.
Kicking Indifference is out now on High Spot, via Fuse Music.

So, are these full band gigs? Only one of the gig dates below is billed as an acoustic set.
Wow. Timewarp back to 2002.
Let's get random.
BONDI?
who's on drums these days?
Nah, that'd be Riff Random. The Pictures have actually released something in the last 12 months.
Sometimes Zac from the Wellingtons, sometimes Joel from Mink Jaguar/Nunchukka Superfly.
cheers Dan.
Who's playing drums at these gigs Dan?
The new record is good too.
Yes Anne, that place with the highest concentration of young adults in all of Australia. Kind of makes sense that the Pictures would play there, seen as, you know, most other bands do as well.
Fuck you're a stupid cliché perpetuating bitch. Get your fat arse out of the bars and lose a few pounds.
That seemed unnecessary. Unless she really is a fat cliche.
In that case, yeah, Bondi sucks.
she really is.
and thus, it was necessary.
you pathetic cuntrag.
If thats at the Beach Rd Hotel it is a strange venue.... probably only 10% there to see the band. Because of this you can always get a good spot though if yr into the band
yawn
That's right, willus. I'm a fat, 6', 60kg heifer.
And yes, hideously clichéd to wish for a single gig closer to home instead of two gigs out east in a venue in which the music can barely be heard over roaring backpackers.
Excuse me if I like to enjoy seeing live bands without hearing about Colin from Dublin's various drinking stories.
Beach Road hotel is a good venue. It's free and there always lots of room.
So there's knobhead backpackers. There's knobheads everywhere. I prefer drunk Irish backpackers to stuck-up Sydney indie scenesters at the smaller venues.
Tonight!
Duo or trio?
trio
colin's from killarney, not dublin.
remember when colin drank ten pints in less than an hour?
Tonight with Chris Altmann & Dave Larkin
Very decent all round last night.
Last night of residency tonight with Mike Noga and Dave Larkin.
