Melbourne’s beloved arts collective/DIY provocateurs/shenanigan organisers Albert’s Basement have released a new vinyl record. The Warm Cupboard is a compilation giving ‘a rough sketch of a bunch of happenings’ in the Melbourne music community.
The record, launched a few weeks back at a massive gig at the Birmingham Hotel in Collingwood, features an all-star line-up of some of the best and brightest from Melbourne’s music scene. The compilation includes tracks from The Frightening Lights, Hi God People, Kes Band, Francis Plagne, Aux Assembly, Star, Free Choice, Seth Rees, Aleks And The Ramps, Christina Tester, Fabulous Diamonds, Woollen Kits, Baseball and Bleak Infinity.
The kids at Albert’s Basement have even been so kind as to source lots of assorted, previously unreleased gems for the discerning listener, including home recordings, b sides, live excerpts and special collaborations.
The cover artwork for The Warm Cupboard was designed by local artists Oliver Hunter, Cait Foran and Androniki Douramakos on a 6-inch tall piece of cardboard, leaving part of the 12-inch record exposed (see above picture). The record is available for $18 plus postage from albertsbasement@hotmail.com.
