Flip Out First Announcement

One of our favourite events of last year – no, not Melbourne’s Laneway – is returning in 2009. And for the first time, it’ll be held in two states.

Run by Stained Circles and Aarght! Records, day-long festival Flip Out will make its Sydney bow at the Manning Bar on August 29. It will be followed by a Melbourne leg at the Corner Hotel – the site of the first Flip Out – on September 5.

Organisers have also announced the first round of acts with Brisbane’s Slug Guts, as well Pink Reason and James Arthur’s Manhunt from the US performing in both states. Eddy Current Suppression Ring, The UV Race and Royal Headache will augment the Sydney line-up, while Melbourne gets the Ooga Boogas, Naked on the Vague and The Disbelievers. More acts to be confirmed.

Tickets for both events on sale June 12.

negative nancies.

Lucydiamond  said about 2 years ago:

Seriously, it'll suck without the Ooga Boogas. That's my prediction.

''How was the Flip Out Festival at the Manning Bar?''
''It was okay''
''Only okay?''
''Yeah, it kinda sucked without the Ooga Boogas''
''Hmmm, yeah, it would have''

This is an example of the disappointed dialogue that will be heard.

I'll negative nancy you, pesky kids...

I'm still going to attend.

shaun  said about 2 years ago:

It'll still be good without them. For some reason I was counting on them being on the line-up though cause they haven't been to Sydney yet (or have they?)

anonymous  said about 2 years ago:

Ubu  said about 2 years ago:

the sydney leg of flip out will suck.

Block  said about 2 years ago:

Regardless, it's cut down a bit from last year's 11 bands...assume there are more announcements to come, ubu?

anonymous  said about 2 years ago:

shared band members can't play twice in one night, they're only human! and sydney may need the ecsr stamp to help drive sales because there's not enough funny haircuts or ironic leather jackets in the bands listed.

that's what the article says.

Only 'cause of Sydney.

Block  said about 2 years ago:

Pfft, who reads the articles here, shaun?

Ubu  said about 2 years ago:

the ''the sydney leg of flip out will suck.'' comment was in reference to lucyd's ob comment.

I noticed a particular American band's MySpace indicating they would be here for this (and another EIGHT Melbourne shows). Unfortunately they're not that great though ;)

Holy shit, I just check his MySpace.

Describes himself as a combined DJ/Trumpeter.

He basically plays the melodies of popular techno songs on trumpet to a backing track.

FLIP OUT, GET HIS GUY NOW!!! Before he becomes too big.

astralwerkor  said about 2 years ago:

He looks awesome. Sadly, the sound on my computer is fucked, so I don't know whether he sounds awesome too.

I´ve got nothing against garage rock, I just thought that the real hero in Revenge of the Nerds was Ogre.
