Drones Look Back For ATP

The Drones have been handpicked to perform a “Don’t Look Back” show at September’s All Tomorrow’s Parties in New York – but they won’t have to look back too far.

The band will reprise 2005’s Wait Long By The River And The Bodies Of Your Enemies Will Float By, their Australian Music Prize-winning second LP. The album, which topped several end-of-year polls, was released internationally through ATP’s own imprint.

Sydney's Bridezilla and ATP perennials The Dirty Three are the only other Australian acts performing at the festival. The latter will play Ocean Songs in its entirety once again. (What? No love for Horse Stories?)

The Flaming Lips-curated ATP will take place from September 11-13 at Kutshers Country Club in Monticello, New York.

Have the Drones Jumped the Shark(fin Blues)?

Sorry.

shaun  said about 2 years ago:

Meh. Just play a fucking set.

TagoMago  said about 2 years ago:

Couldn't the Dirty Three play anything but Ocean Songs? I'd way rather hear Self Titled, Whatever You Love.. or Horse Stories.

anonymous  said about 2 years ago:

considering there was talk that the dirty three were done, the fact they're playing again (even if its ocean songs again) is a good thing.

another vote for Horse Stories

they weren't handpicked by the Flaming Lips

they were picked by ATP (who luck would have it release their albums)

jimmy hutspah  said about 2 years ago:

whoever the hell picked them - i'd sure like to see this!

Cooperative Music  said about 2 years ago:

yeah, poor piece.
apart from this being announced weeks ago, they weren't ''handpicked'' (do people sometimes use their feet for picking?) by Flaming Lips, and they're not the only Aussie band other than Dirty Three to be playing.

mrmagoo  said about 2 years ago:

yeah tryin to forget Bridezilla

mealzebub  said about 2 years ago:

Sock it to 'em, Drones.

raven  said about 2 years ago:

Can you (Don't) Look Back when it's only a few bloody years?
Not that the Drones aren't good or nuffin', but really.

CaptainFez  said about 2 years ago:

I think it's because they needed an excuse to put 'em on the bill again. They've played how many ATP shindigs now?

The earlier news piece kinda implied Bridezilla were picked by Flips too by not mentioning ATP curated the day they're playing.

I think this would be super awesome though. I have no qualms about it not being so long since they released it. Whatevz, great album. Whole weekend would be amazing, oh to see Ocean Songs again

You missed the Bridezilla news piece, Co-op. It got some attention and bickering (and defending from some - including me).

It could be a press release serviced to M+N today ? No idea, but it's a possibility.

12 May 2009, Co-op.

Sydney’s Bridezilla have been selected to appear at The Flaming Lips-curated ATP Festival in New York in September. They will join fellow Aussies The Drones and the Dirty Three on a bill that also includes Animal Collective,

I know I'm defending my turf here but I think DL's copping it unfairly, even if I get the whole 'hand-picked' issue.

exactly. I'm sick of reading about bands being ''handpicked'' when they weren't. The term seems to be in every press release i read these days.

HANDPICKED BY CURATORS

MelonHCST  said about 2 years ago:

Needs more Horse Stories.

Cooperative Music  said about 2 years ago:

well, i apologise. I did ''handpick'' a bit about Bridezilla being ''handpicked'' by Flaming Lips out of the original press release, but didn't replace it with being ''handpicked'' by ATP.

Gorn  said about 2 years ago:

nosepicked

The selection of Ocean Songs smells Cavey to me...

I think Horse Stories is the better album

So did I before seeing it live at ATP

I want a new Dirty Three album...

I've heard rumours this will be the last Dirty Three show ever. Best not be true!

Rumourpeople were saying that about the last one, too.

Depends on how strong the Cave/Ellis bromance is, I guess.
