The Church’s Steve Kilbey and All India Radio’s Martin Kennedy have teamed up for a forthcoming new release.
Based on a “mutual admiration of each other’s work”, Unseen Music Unheard Words took three years to come to fruition with Kilbey and Kennedy recording in separate cites: Sydney and Melbourne, respectively. Kennedy wrote the music and sent it to Kilbey, who added vocals to the tracks.
For Kennedy, a longtime fan of The Church, working with Kilbey was a dream come true – even if the pair worked on the album in isolation. “We worked on the album separately for over a year without any direct contact at all – not even an email,” Kennedy said. “We didn’t need to – it was simple operation. I sent him the music, he wrote and recorded the words and that was it. It was another six months before we began to email and eventually spoke to each other. It was probably the easiest project I’ve ever worked on. We are currently preparing the follow up album.”
Unseen Music Unheard Words is out June 15 via MGM.
