Jen Cloher will release her sophomore LP Hidden Hands on July 10 through Sandcastle Music/MGM.
The album was predominantly written in New Zealand, where Cloher had travelled to be with her Alzheimer’s-inflicted mother. Opening track, ‘Mother’s Desk’, sets the tone for Hidden Hands. It finds Cloher holed up in Auckland, grappling with her mother’s illness and facing writer’s block.
The album was recorded upon Cloher’s return to Melbourne in late 2008. Recorded over seven days at Woodstock Studios, it was produced by Paul McKercher (Augie March, Sarah Blasko) with guest contributions by multi-instrumentalist Laura Jean.
Hidden Hands will be launched by Cloher and her band The Endless Sea – Geoff Dunbar (bass), Jen Sholakis (drums), Biddy Connor (viola, saw) and Michael Hubbard (guitar) – at intimate shows in Sydney and Melbourne in July.
