Rogers And Co Play The Beatles

Legend has it that The Beatles’ wildly divergent 1968 double LP The Beatles (colloquially known as The White Album) was the product of three ingredients: India (Rishikesh, to be precise), transcendental meditation and copious amounts of weed.

While you won’t find us casting aspersions here at Mess+Noise, one of those things surely played a hand in the decision by Tim Rogers, Chris Cheney, Phil Jamieson and Josh Pyke to re-create The Beatles’ classic in full in August. Indeed, you’d have to be under the influence (of drugs or a guru, you decide) to tackle the most experimental release of The Beatles’ ouevre: a sprawling, 30-track colossus of an album where every track is an oddball entity in its own right.

Nevertheless, messrs Rogers, Cheney, Jamieson and Pyke – backed by a 17-piece band – will tackle rock’s equivalent of Mount Everest over four shows: Melbourne’s Hamer Hall on August 4, Brisbane’s QPAC on August 6 and Sydney’s Opera House on August 7 and 8.

How the foursome approach the shows is anyone’s guess, but we strongly doubt Pyke will belt out ‘Helter Skelter’ or ‘Yer Blues’ – though it’d be worth the admission price to hear him try. As for the Ringo tracks, it's gotta be Jamieson, right?

Tickets on sale May 22.

I wonder what they'll do for Revolution #9.

This sounds awesome.
The $129 ticket price is less awesome.

Psyclops  said about 2 years ago:

I thought they'd been ''playing'' the Beatles for years now!

dub3000  said about 2 years ago:

pyke used to play in a band called phlo'em that went pretty hard. he can definitely do the rock vocal thing.

there was an fbi benefit (?) gig a few years back at the hoey with lots of people from sydney bands doing the same thing, split over two nights. was pretty great. matt downey did a totally killer 'cry baby cry'.

OMG. what do these dickheads have anything to do with the beatles over? the lot of em are about as tripped out as a bag of potatos.

__v  said about 2 years ago:

I remember seeing You Am I do a decent version of I'm So Tired once.

Not making any excuses though - this is a shit idea of the highest order.

Les McQueen  said about 2 years ago:

Josh Pyke's monotonal vocal delivery will not only make me and my guitar weep but sleep as well.

That was 'The Quarrelmen' Hetro, a play on the name of John's first band which was ''The Quarrymen'.

Wish I went to that now, cause I sure ain't paying $130 to see this!

Ben  said about 2 years ago:

who's playing drums?

loveparade  said about 2 years ago:

i guarantee no-one will pay $130 for this. If they did it at the annandale for $30 they would have more luck. fuck the orchestra off and just play the songs...

HeteroAsFuck  said about 2 years ago:

hey monkeyman, your right actually. It's been a while since I read the bio!
Yeah $130 is a bit steep.

crapbandname  said about 2 years ago:

lots will pay it's the beatles!

should be at festival hall in 1964 uniform mode. see that would be cool. this well lame. Then again theres that Pink Floyd cover band that advertises on the TV. they should get a TV ad!

hey teacher leave them kids alone. I mean, hey kids leave the teachers alone.

The more and more and more and more I think about this the more and more and more and more it makes me a bit mad.

To be honest I think it's just the Phil Jamieson thing. The other three guys, although I am not a fan have gained some kind of national success for having skills but fuck me. Will it be Jamiesons job to open and close the curtain, smiling around the corner looking for his mum in the crowd to wave to.

Ubu  said about 2 years ago:

I wonder if ECSR will be playing X's Aspirations or Turtles' Woodhead in 15 years. This sounds like a terrible idea.

drtoupee  said about 2 years ago:

$130 may be expensive but hiring a 17 piece band probably is too

King_Rat  said about 2 years ago:

Yeah but giving Phil Jamieson a 17 piece band is like asking that old channel ten presenter Quentin the basketball in a wheelchair the oppurtunity to race for a formula 1 team.

Waste of time.

Chief Bromden  said about 2 years ago:

yeah he is a douche for sure.

so is that living end fucker.

dunno even know who josh pyke is.

rogers is OK, but not $130 OK.

HeteroAsFuck  said about 2 years ago:

I'd rather put the money into an ACDC ticket. Then again, idiots like me are the reason they can still play arena's. ''Yeah fuck it, I'll go to see 'em, just to say 'I've seen 'em ''

Goal attack  said about 2 years ago:

they should do a muscles-style ''NO INDUSTRY'' to justify the ticket price.

Anyone got the presale code? Someone has asked me.

bigdaddykane  said about 2 years ago:

It's number 9, number 9, etc.

King_Rat  said about 2 years ago:

hahahaha

timmydodgers  said about 2 years ago:

wow, the haters are out in force. $130 is rich but it sounds like they're pulling out the stops... and if you don't think it's a good idea then I'd suggest not buying a ticket. personally i think rogers is perfect for this and if you need proof see luxury of hysteria... as for the rest if they can keep up should be a good night out!
