Jet Reveal Cover Art, Tracklisting

News posted Friday, May 1 2009 at 04:00 AM.
Related: Jet.

OK, so it’s no Cosmic Egg, but the title of Jet’s new album is just as perplexing. The band will release Shaka Rock, which may or may not be a reference to a Zulu warrior or a yoga pose, on August 25.

The album opens with lead-off single ‘K.I.A (Killed in Action), which we described as an “over-produced slice of power-pop glam”. It also features ‘She’s A Genius’, which made its live debut at the Sound Relief concert in Melbourne in March.

Tracklisting:

K.I.A. (Killed in Action)
Beat on Repeat
She’s a Genius
Black Hearts (On Fire)
Seventeen
La Di Da
Goodbye Hollywood
Walk
Times Like This
Let Me Out
Start The Show
She Holds A Grudge

It'd actually be quite a good cover if it weren't for the horrendous album title written in graffiti.

Is 'Black Hearts (On Fire)', a reference to a Cut Copy song??

shaun  said about 1 year ago:

'Black Hearts (On Fire)'

This means the songs chorus will probably go something like ''on fire! on fire!''. The label wanted to insist on thus calling the song 'On Fire' so dumbarses would know which song they were listening to. Jet were all like ''stop trampling our artistic vision, it's called Black Hearts for (insert stupid pansy reason)'' but eventually settled on a compromise.

__v  said about 1 year ago:

I would listen to a song called ''Blackheads (On Fire)''.

basil seal  said about 1 year ago:

didn't bernard black burn down black books in one episode?

__v  said about 1 year ago:

''Blackie's (On Fire)'', a tender ballad about the time the firebreathing bit in ''Suck and Swallow'' went terribly wrong.

(I hope this never happened).

wipey's post is probably better than the actual album. And it only took 2 minutes to write.

annehelena  said about 1 year ago:

I actually think it's a pretty cool cover. I find it hard to believe there'd be this much criticism if it instead said 'ESCR' in the top right hand corner...

annehelena  said about 1 year ago:

Or ECSR, even.

Is it to late to give this a POD?

If anyone in Melbourne is interested...
there is a Jet belt buckle for sale in a new recycled clothing store on Nicholson st in the Carlton/Fitzroy area. Might be good way of showing your dislike of the band in an inventive/ironic way. A clever musician could could even wear it on stage....Funnier than most of the posts here without typing a word!

I'd sooner welcome the news of a death of close relative.

unvisible  said about 1 year ago:

They should have used a deliberately shit painting or a deliberately shit black and white photo and then they could have made the 2009 Mess+Noise Official Best Album Covers list. (If they played deliberately shit indie rock.)

montyclift  said about 1 year ago:

meh. looks like the cover of any album by any fourth division american rock band.

timewaster  said about 1 year ago:

It's a lot better than the photo on the cover of 'Shine On'.

But the hip-hop graff will confuse people. Jet are not a hip-hop band. It's looks like the cover of a Resin Dogs record (which is best used as a drinks coaster).

Funny, when Jet started the guys would NEVER have approved a cover like that. They were very proud to be retro!

Is their new manager trying to make them look 'hip' or, even, gasp, 'edgy'?

I wonder if they'll still be dressing in posey cowboy boots, girls' Levis and western shirts... or will Chris have a giant clock hanging around his neck?

Fixed.

hyperfuzz  said about 1 year ago:

crackwhore  said about 1 year ago:

pretty sure their new manager is Buck Cherrys former manager.

adamdmills  said about 1 year ago:

actually, the graffiti is pretty naff, but it's hardly the worst album cover of recent times. fabulous diamonds, anyone?

loveparade  said about 1 year ago:

haha, i love that diamonds cover...possibly because it is horrible

esquared  said about 1 year ago:

i just plain love the fab d's cover.

if this was an ecsr cover i'd be even more wtf.

Kez  said about 1 year ago:

Band name in top right-hand cover (especially short names) = price sticker positioned RIGHT over the top of it. Great for your UK HMV display!

Whats the fucking point of reviewing Jet on this website?

Nah, a bad cover is a bad cover no matter what you think of the band.

shaun  said about 1 year ago:

the cover isn't bad. i like the colours.

kuroneko  said about 1 year ago:

Reminds me of the Audioslave cover for some reason.

*Tardo-El-Eggo*  said about 1 year ago:

Yah, have to say it got my attention, BUT ''Shaka Rock'' ??

When are aussie bands going to move on from Boogie Rock days?... bloody mushroom records

drtoupee  said about 1 year ago:

Looks cool, a bit Pink Floydish except the crappy graffitti style heading.
