Jet Back With New Single
News posted Thursday, April 16 2009 at 01:00 AM.
Related: Jet.
After returning to the live circuit with a spirited performance at Sound Relief, Jet have released the first snippet from their forthcoming new album, the follow-up to 2006’s Shine On.
‘K.I.A (Killed in Action)’ is available as a free stream from the band’s website. And it’s a departure of sorts, in that the band don’t overtly rip-off AC/DC or Oasis, but Cheap Trick, that legendary Rockford quartet.
The track is an over-produced slice of power-pop glam that recalls (nay rips off) ‘Elo Kiddies’ right down to the kids yelling “K.I.A” in the chorus. Don’t worry, there are plenty of Jet-isms too – from start-stop interludes, Nic Cester’s vocal histrionics and some seriously beguiling lyrics about war zones and VCRs and movie stars. Perhaps Cester himself puts it best when he says: “Tell me it’s all a joke.”
New album is reportedly "out soon".

...or has this place moved on.
Why are people so unkind?
Hm. If you're gonna slag it and have a 67% snide content, why the need to report it as news?
Not that I disagree with the slagging necessarily, but it feels like there is a bit of an each-way bet going on here - trying to become some sort of catch-all indie news node yet still retain cranky M+N cred.
Exactly, _v.
inserts knerf joke before you other cunts can
kner...damnit!
Why the hell is this news on this site?
jets always been news on this site.
fuck i've been here for a while.
the track sounds FUCKING FANTASTIC
GO JET!!!!!!!!!
nah. but then again, neither have they.
Doesn't rip off Cheap Trick nearly enough.
Actually, sounds more like Wings.
which is where they got the band name from in the first place.
starts of sounding like bono but i reckon it's pretty good
Kia should use it for one of thier car comericials.
well put ___v. this side of m+n doesn't sit well with me.
they might not be original in any sense of the word, but they can write catchy fucking tunes.
M&N stands as one in defence of Jet... Is this real life?
It's the inevitable backlash to the backlash. Don't worry, there'll be a backlash to that too, soon enough.
it really is naggingly familiar, not of cheap trick but something else...
are they are on ivy league now?
I'm not defending Jet.
Poor Darren Levin, or whoever.
Jet sucks: Y/N
exactly why is this a bad thing? should they become an indie news catch-all and try to be purely objective? that would be boring.
jet are shit. another pasturised version of something real from a coupla generations ago. any more fucking shit and it would be wrist cutting time except for one thing. IT IS FUNNY. it is hilarious watching these puny weeds dressing up in keith richards costume PRETENDING to rock on smack like 72'
HAHA youcocksuckers thanks for the shits and giggles
HAHA bump for these fuicking retards. HAHA
option c).: don't give a rat's either way.
mostly harmless, but probably undeserving of the notice they receive.
Yeah, but who is this news story trying to impress? Not Jet fans. So is it there purely as hatebait for M+N forum peoples? In which case, perhaps those column inches could be better utilised reporting on something that the site/writer was genuinely enthusiastic about that might not get covered everywhere else anyway.
point is harmless satiates the kids on sat night but is no soul food. gotta still go back to the olden days for soul food in rock.
Yeah. Another weather report for the weekend would be nice.
i really don't see the problem here.
as in i don't know what you're all getting upset about. news reported, opinion expressed.
And look how many people chimed in with their opinion. More ad views and potential clicks. ONLINE STRATEGY, MOTHERFUCKERS!
Why do news stories have to impress anybody?
Define ''news''.
Hahahaha. DAMN! Instead, I shall make a joke about inserting knerf.
Hmm. On second thoughts.
It was news to me. I was even interested enough to click through to the song (although not interested enough to listen to it all the way through).
is (ahem) journalism really the field where you wanna invoke a ''if you don't have anything nice to say...''? i don't see why m+n can't enthusiastically cover obscure local bands' demos and poke fun at industry darlings/hasbeens/whoever else. there's room for everyone.
I'd rather M&N's sarcy comments than FasterLouder's ''totes awesome'' attitude any day.

At least he's not using that fucking falsetto
Is that any different to a normal falsetto, looch?
only in when its being used.
HA!
I didn't say they did. I don't think they do. This story feels like it is trying hard, though. It has its thumbs stuck through its belt loops.
Maybe it is the way that it was classified as a news item that sat uncomfortably with me. I guess by choosing to ''cover'' it as news then he (?) is implicitly assigning the event with some sort of importance, while still snickering behind his hand at the substance of the story. Surely it is a cooler option to completely ignore anything that Jet get up to?
Anyway, seems some people like it & some people don't. Vive le internet.
Good guys.
When you get a stack of press releases on your desk telling you they're news, you just take them as read, surely?
I think you're worrying about this entirely too much.
High fives to the idea that any news is objective!
In other matters, I don't see why this song can't enjoy the same sort of integrity that Grinspoon's Chemical Heart does.
'rips off'
Doesnt sound like Cheap Trick. Trick write Choruses.
the clip for this is hilariously awful.
--holy fuck--
brutal film clip...
