Seaworthy Presents ‘1897’
News posted Thursday, April 9 2009 at 02:00 AM.
Related: Seaworthy.
Seaworthy will launch its second full-length disc in seven cities over the next two months.
Dubbed 1897, the album is a series of improvisations, compositions and field recordings made by Cameron Webb in and around a 100-year-old decommissioned ammunitions bunker. Whittling down the six hours of 4-track cassette, minidisk and computer recordings resulting from the sessions took most of 2008 to complete. The process was punctuated by the birth of Webb’s first child. As a result, mixing was a long, drawn-out process and completed under the haze of sleep deprivation.
Unlike the warm pastoral sounds of previous releases, 1897 is described by Webb as having a starker, more melancholic sound. Some tracks are stripped back to a single guitar while others feature a colder, abrasive approach to drone pieces.
A 64-page book of photographs shot by Webb from the bunker and surrounding areas was available as a companion to the 1897 CD but sold out within a week.

Fantastic news.
Damn, I've got LC tix as well.
Admittedly that is a pretty good problem to have.
I love the sound of ammunitions bunkers, especially decommissioned ones. How old they are I can take or leave.

look forward to hearing the ceedee anyway.
Same. Sheisse.
are you two lovers?
Can't wait to hear this album. Am looking forward to the Brisbane show! Am just going to miss out on Sydney and Canberra shows, which is a pity.
Jealous of the ol home town getting such a rare Solo Andata show. Will be at the Sydney gig but fo sho!
(ps - not to thread hijack, but I can't find the Laughing Clowns thread - but will anyone be at the Sunday show? I'll be in Sydney that night it looks like)

this don't look gallery seems pretty awesome, there's a gail priest article in real time on it.

Most importantly, this venue is about three doors down from Abla's Sweets - some of the best lebanese sweets in town. Prepare for some of the worst customer service but tastiest sugar soaked pastry....

Should be $10.
What time does this start?
that above fb thingo says 7 but who knoooows
Thaaaanks man. Not sure if I will make it but gonna try!
skipping 2.5 kilometres down the road and back again will be fun.
Really pissed this is on the same night as 3ofmillions, which is also Mr. Maps' launch and also Underlapper's last show of the year. Will be skipping down the road and back again with Mr Whale.
Even I'm disappointed to be missing the last Underlapper show for a while!

Should be an interesting show. There is lots on tonight in Sydney so if you miss out, stayed tuned for news on an official sydney album launch show in the coming weeks.
There are a few in this youtube video but we're working to get them online sometime soon too.
ah cool, probably won't miss a huge amount of the other show. i've seen underlapper forty million times.
Brisbane show only about a fortnight away, hoorah!
Another Sydney show coming up too.
HIGH REFLECTIONS 2
Kusum
Onani
Seaworthy
Saturday 30th May. Serial Space (33 Wellington St, Chippendale)
Kusum is currently studying in Melbourne, and recently carried out a four city tour of japan where she performed her developing extreme vocal style. Recently described as being massaged while punched in the stomach, this performance should not be missed (don't blink).
Onani are Daryl Prondoso and Nic Warnock who after playing around with a tonal/drone style decided they just wanted to play some caveman shit. Influenced by Chrome, Hawkwind, Brainbombs, Throbbing Gristle and Prince, Onani play heavy psych guitar, blown-out synth over chopped and screwed rhythmic loops.
Seaworthy is known for his wonderfully fragile guitar, field recordings and electronics. His performances are captivating and highly prized. Seaworthy's latest release on the American 12K label is described as stark and melancholic - Serial Space and High Reflections will be a great place to experience this performance.
I think I can come to this one, will finally get 1897!
Oooh. I think I might well get along!
Interview and live performance by Seaworthy on Unputdownable, FBI Radio around 930pm tonight (Wednesday).
Nice review of 1897 on Digitalis this week too. ''some of the strongest material here is found in the brief and eerie recordings made within the building with little to know instrumentation. Vast caverns of air move about as footsteps and small trickles emanate through the space, making for a highly tangible listening experience''.
Interview on Rusted Satellites on 4zzz too tonight, user runoutgroove?
yes, 4ZZZ interview tonight for Brisbane kids!
Seaworthy interview in Time Off
Brisbane set was beautiful. Looking forward to finally listening to 1897 in full over the weekend.
Pimmon recorded this short segment of the recent live set in Brisbane and popped it up on AudioBoo. seaworthy live
