Continuing the pattern of local bands getting a whiff of attention overseas and then promptly pissing off, Melbourne’s The Temper Trap will relocate to London next week.
The band, who recently returned from a buzz-building stint at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, will base themselves in the UK for the next six months. Perhaps they can share a house with Snowman?
Speaking to M+N today, drummer Toby Dundas said the band’s decision to relocate was prompted by their recent deal with UK label Infectious, which is run by former Warner Music managing director Korda Marshall.
“We’ve partnered up with Infectious and we need to be there to make it work. While it’d be great to jet over there every couple of weeks to play a gig, it’s just not financially or practically possible,” he said.
“We made the decision to focus a certain amount of time on the UK/Europe market while we had the opportunity. So we’re going to spend six months over there at this stage, play a bunch of club shows and a few festivals. It’ll be like starting from scratch, so we’ll see what happens.”
M+N can also reveal that the band’s Jim Abbiss-produced debut will be titled Conditions. It will be released locally through Liberation on June 19.

OH NOOOOOOO
were you planning a festival king_rat, and don't know who to put on now?
may I suggest British India?
have they relocated yet?
i heard muscles is relocating to norfolk island.
Oh wait, I meant to write who?
they played an industry gig last night and to be honest were fucking amazing. new album will be a cracker.
what's an industry gig? (serious question)
fuck this band is horrible.
They were record of the week on the Sony-nominated Shaun Keaveny Breakfast Show on BBC 6Music the other week
an Industry gig is where they invite a bunch of Aand R types and their hangers on to see the band play. I've seen one at the Oxford Art Factory when we played the room next to it. Weird! all old drunk suits listening to terrible music.
I think its on of those things you do if you want to ''make it'' and your signed to a big label
so MOR they're almost AOR
or perhaps KOL
Did you know that acts aren't allowed to book the space unless they're seen as meeting the aesthetic values of The ICA?
