Mum Smokes Launch

Mum Smokes will play their first show in two years at Melbourne’s John Curtin Hotel on June 26.

The show will double as the launch of their new double LP, House Music/*Easy*, which is due out on April 25 through Sensory Projects. Comprising 33 tracks, the two albums will be bundled together in a recycled card wallet with artwork by renowned visual artist Mark Rodda.

The show at Carlton’s John Curtin Hotel will be the band’s first since their performance at the Dirty Three-curated All Tomorrow’s Parties in the UK in 2007.

Will they just reform to play the launch/es, and then disband again? I heard there were some creative tensions that pretty much drove them apart.

3 bands,
starts at 9
1st on, 9ish
2nd on 10ish
3rd on 11ish.
and with most 3 band bills
the 1st will go on @ 9:30, pushing everything else back 1/2

Thats just me using my head, not offical.

King_Rat  said about 2 years ago:

Shit better run late.

puretokyo  said about 2 years ago:

cheers OB, sounds good as gold

JP, doug was really keen but his mum is in town for the week and she don't smoke

anok  said about 2 years ago:

is this seriously a chance to sell out? whats the capacity?

King_Rat  said about 2 years ago:

I went moshtix for the fear kicked in.

JunkiePhil  said about 2 years ago:

Yeah, high chance it'll sell out.
They kick ass, and it got gig of the week, which usualy sells a show out.

Cap woudln't be more then 250 i'd say.

Everything i've said in here, is just me making stuff up, but it's educated at least.

anok  said about 2 years ago:

does this venue have dancing 'n shit afterwards?

King_Rat  said about 2 years ago:

check the myspace if you can

You might have to google that because I am not.

JunkiePhil  said about 2 years ago:

I don't know if it was the room or they've changed their sound.
But I really couldn't get into MS on friday.
It sounded ok closer to the front, but you couldn't get there 1/2 way through.

Julian kinda looked like Jim Reed at times, when he was fronting.

JunkiePhil  said about 2 years ago:

No offence ment by any of that, especialy not the Jim Reed coment.
I love both MS and Jim Reed.

Orange Julius  said about 2 years ago:

I didn't go to this so I can't say but generally the sound at the Curtin is a drag. I dig the room a lot but everything I've seen there - both quiet and loud - sounds muddy and one dimensional.

King_Rat  said about 2 years ago:

I think I was standing on about the same angle as you Phil.

Room needs some more speakers point to the nether regions of my lobes.

JunkiePhil  said about 2 years ago:

Even looks a bit like him in that pic, good photo too!

Yeah, I'd say it was the room, as I've loved the shit out of all there other shows I've seen.

steveholt  said about 2 years ago:

Saw Kid Sam there and Love Of Diagrams in the past and sound not great with those bands either. Having said that was a great gig and they are a great band.

Fuck me though the crowd was a who's who of Melbourne indie bands was it not.

I stood next to Mick Turner and got a little doe eyed.

goldbuttons  said about 2 years ago:

must say I am really really looking forward to the Sydney show.

SpringRain  said about 2 years ago:

goldbuttons  said about 2 years ago:

don't think so

djbollocks  said about 2 years ago:

I would've loved to have seen this show. Are they playing any more dates or was it a one shot deal?

shaun  said about 2 years ago:

goldbuttons  said about 2 years ago:

So Mum Smokes didn't floor me like I expected. Dick Diver did however.

goldbuttons  said about 2 years ago:

Dick Diver are amazing! My new favourite band.

A very enjoyable night I must say.

SpringRain  said about 2 years ago:

Yeah, Dick Diver were certainly amazing. Songs were quite good too. I expected more from Mum Smokes, as they are easily one of my favourite bands on record these days. I guess it was an off night.

aloha  said about 2 years ago:
