Mum Smokes will play their first show in two years at Melbourne’s John Curtin Hotel on June 26.
The show will double as the launch of their new double LP, House Music/*Easy*, which is due out on April 25 through Sensory Projects. Comprising 33 tracks, the two albums will be bundled together in a recycled card wallet with artwork by renowned visual artist Mark Rodda.
The show at Carlton’s John Curtin Hotel will be the band’s first since their performance at the Dirty Three-curated All Tomorrow’s Parties in the UK in 2007.

Fucken sweet
Will they just reform to play the launch/es, and then disband again? I heard there were some creative tensions that pretty much drove them apart.

Can you get pre-sales anywhere?
I'm going early to see White Woods, but a mate can't make it till later on.

Thats just me using my head, not offical.
Shit better run late.

JP, doug was really keen but his mum is in town for the week and she don't smoke
is this seriously a chance to sell out? whats the capacity?
I went moshtix for the fear kicked in.
Yeah, high chance it'll sell out.
They kick ass, and it got gig of the week, which usualy sells a show out.
Cap woudln't be more then 250 i'd say.
Everything i've said in here, is just me making stuff up, but it's educated at least.
does this venue have dancing 'n shit afterwards?
check the myspace if you can
You might have to google that because I am not.
xo
this was rad.
'Indeed', Omar Little
I don't know if it was the room or they've changed their sound.
But I really couldn't get into MS on friday.
It sounded ok closer to the front, but you couldn't get there 1/2 way through.
Julian kinda looked like Jim Reed at times, when he was fronting.
No offence ment by any of that, especialy not the Jim Reed coment.
I love both MS and Jim Reed.
I didn't go to this so I can't say but generally the sound at the Curtin is a drag. I dig the room a lot but everything I've seen there - both quiet and loud - sounds muddy and one dimensional.
I think I was standing on about the same angle as you Phil.
Room needs some more speakers point to the nether regions of my lobes.
Even looks a bit like him in that pic, good photo too!
Yeah, I'd say it was the room, as I've loved the shit out of all there other shows I've seen.
Saw Kid Sam there and Love Of Diagrams in the past and sound not great with those bands either. Having said that was a great gig and they are a great band.
Fuck me though the crowd was a who's who of Melbourne indie bands was it not.
I stood next to Mick Turner and got a little doe eyed.
must say I am really really looking forward to the Sydney show.
are tickets available for sydney yet?
don't think so
I would've loved to have seen this show. Are they playing any more dates or was it a one shot deal?
anyone know if there will be pre-sales for Sydney?
tix on sale via moshtix now.
Haven't looked forward to seeing a local(ish) band as much as this for so long!
so looking forward to sydney show. yay!
i love these guys so much... have to miss the sydney show.
any others i wonder? WILL THEY EVER RETURN?!?!
does anyone have times for tonight?
So Mum Smokes didn't floor me like I expected. Dick Diver did however.
Dick Diver are amazing! My new favourite band.
A very enjoyable night I must say.
Yeah, Dick Diver were certainly amazing. Songs were quite good too. I expected more from Mum Smokes, as they are easily one of my favourite bands on record these days. I guess it was an off night.
reminded me a bit of the phoenix foundation
Two sets from the Spectrum show. Neither of which are Mum Smokes.
Beautiful, definitely getting Dick Diver!
Thankyou!
Thanks Morris. It's real nice to hear these Dick Diver songs again...
Dick Diver jamming the Flying Tea Towel Blues!
look out for the first official Dick Diver track 'Tribal Council' on the forthcoming Special Award Records compilation 'Swan Vs Raptor'. It'll also include unreleased tracks from The Twerps, Mark Barrage, Darren Sylvester, Extreme Wheeze and heaps of others...
