Dicko’s Hard For Eddy

“The kids who know, know this band are the coolest band on the planet right now.”
No, Ian “Dicko” Dickson isn’t talking about The Galvatrons or Human Nature, but Eddy Current Suppression, who walked away with a cool $30,000 courtesy of the Australian Music Prize last month.
Speaking on 9am With David & Kim last week, the Australian Idol judge lauded the band’s “fiercely independent” spirit, as well as their AMP Award-winning second album Primary Colours.
“It’s a great record,” he told hosts David Reyne and Kim Watkins. “It’s great, agitated indie pop-rock. It’s really grungy post-punk.”
He later heaped praise on the band’s “groovy” label Aarght! Records and The Ooga Boogas – ECSR guitarist Mikey Young’s other band – which he described as “brilliant”.
Dickson also marveled at Eddy Current’s resourcefulness. Primary Colours cost $1500, the (recoupable) make-up budget for a band at his old employers Sony BMG.
“The point I’m making is you don’t have to spend a fortune to be brilliant,” said the former Creation Records exec. “Creative genius doesn’t need thousands and thousands of dollars spent on it.”
Co-host Reyne wasn’t so smitten, however. The former Australian Crawl and Chantoozies drummer had a few tips for ECSR sticksman Danny Young.
“The drummer should perhaps just sit at home with a metronome and just get in time,” he said.

The naivete of this news item is staggering: $1500 is a completely inadequate amount for a Sony band's make-up budget.
re-rank my posting rank. I refuse to go under block and andyr.
I'll move over, andy, we'll be on top together like Hilary & Tenzing.

play a free gig on chelsea beach with a bunch of mates and fans in front of a friends beach box. get some friends to film it on video. tweak it on a mac yourself. done.

I can make it at home for nothing.

Man, there's some great music coming out of Oz at the moment!

From his bio: ''In 1985 Dicko graduated from Nottingham University with a degree in Politics and heads to London to set up home with his new girlfriend Mel. He immediately lands a job as press and promotions manager for seminal independent label Creation records, the brainchild of legendary A&R impresario Alan Magee.''
