Temper Trap Generates SxSW Buzz

The buzz surrounding Melbourne four-piece Temper Trap is akin to that of Wolfmother four years ago.
This is the view of Peter Cohen, Austrade's LA-based Australian Music Office co-ordinator.
Speaking to AAP at the South by Southwest (SxSW) festival in Austin, Texas, Cohen said that two subsequent US tours had put the band in prime position for a major label deal. “Six or seven” labels were reportedly clambering to meet with the band after a performance at a SxSW curtain-raiser on March 18.
“They have been to the US two or three times over the past year, they have really built up a good following,” Cohen told AAP. “With SxSW it's really hard to come here and just get discovered - that's unrealistic. There are a few artists that are putting in a lot of hard work, doing the leg work, and then they come here and it all falls into place.
“I think they have several offers now for a US label - they have at least two or three offers. There is some serious interest.”
As for the other Aussie buzz bands at the festival, which concluded in Austin on Sunday? No, it wasn’t The Drones, My Disco or The Grates, but Brisbane’s The Boat People and Perth four-piece Birds Of Tokyo, Cohen said.
The Temper Trap will play a final US showcase in Los Angeles today before jetting back home for the V Festival.
