With a natural sense of theatricality and that distinctive profile, it was only a matter of time before Tim Rogers began treading the boards. The You Am I frontman will play a villainous angel in an adaptation of Georg Büchner’s 1837 masterpiece, Woyzeck, at Melbourne’s Malthouse Theatre in January.
The play, which explores sexual jealousy and paranoia, tells of a man who is forced to eke out a life of humiliating lab trials to support his indifferent mistress and her young son. Directed by Michael Kantor, Woyzeck features a haunting set of lyrical songs composed by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis.
Rogers’ last foray into acting was his portrayal of an alcoholic Orthodox Jew in Hunter Finklestien, a short film made by VCA student Michael Weisler in 2004.
