'Idol' Winner Implores You To Audition

If you’re playing at the Hoey this week, don’t waste your time.

This is the message from Australian Idol winner Wes Carr, who thinks bedroom recording artists eager for their big break should look no further than the popular Ten Network show.

“If you are unhappy on the barstool, then go and audition [for Idol],” Carr, a 26-year-old singer from Bondi, told The Sydney Morning Herald this week.

“I would like to encourage all the musicians who are writing and playing at The Hopetoun [in Sydney] every Friday and going on tours in vans up and down the coast, doing it through winter and then the bus breaks down, gather all those things up and make something of them.”

Indeed, why would you want to do that, when just like Carr, you could be releasing someone else’s shit pop song for a multi-million-dollar conglomerate like Sony BMG? You’ll hit number one, win a token ARIA Award for best digital sales in a calendar month before dropping the music thing for a career on Neighbours. All the while being forever inDEBTed to the good folks at Sony BMG.

Oh, the life of an Idol winner sure beats the trials and tribulations of a suffering indie artist. Just ask Casey Donovan (the singer, not the porn star).

Depends doesn't it?

I'm sure, like Guy Sebastian, they'll let him release a few of his own songs and that will be royalty money that bmg cannot touch no matter how much he owes their recording arm. I'm sure it will make him a lot more money than the ep he released previously off his own bat.

Point is if you are using the institution knowing how it works then you might get something out of it. A lot of good music gets made by people without enormous vocal ranges though and that will never fly on idol so the advice isn't really very practical for most bands.

''That romantic disease, originality, all around we see originality of incompetent idiots, they could draw nothing, paint nothing, just so the mess they make is original . . . Even 200 years ago who wanted to be original, to be original was to admit that you could not do a thing the right way, so you could only do it your own way.''

Since when did M+N turn into Perez Hilton?

Any moral authority in this story vanished the instant you thought it would be funny to draw cum on Wes Carr's face.
