Melbourne’s Electric Jellyfish will play their first show since the death of their guitarist in a tragic road accident last year.
Hayden Sweeney and his wife Bridget O’Brien, a photographer, were killed when the band’s rental van crashed en route to New York City on their maiden US tour.
In the six months since the accident, guitarist/singer Michael Beach recorded a solo album, bassist Adam Camilleri escaped to Berlin for recovery and drummer Patrick Lias has dabbled in art.
The band, however, have made the “difficult decision” to continue as a three-piece. They will return to the live circuit with a show at The Tote on September 19 with the Stabs and Kes (solo). The gig will double as the launch of Beach’s debut, Blood Courses.
An EP of new Electric Jellyfish material is set to be released on the Thurston Moore/Byron Coley collaborative label Ecstatic Yod. Defiantly, an extensive US tour is planned for later this year.
