Organisers have pulled the plug on this year’s Great Escape festival.
Low ticket sales have been blamed for the cancellation of the two-day event, which was scheduled to be held at the Newington Armory in October.
“We’d … like to wholeheartedly apologise to the bands, artists, agents, managers, suppliers, sponsors, media supporters and festival goers that have been let down by our decision,” a statement from orgnisers read. “The decision to cancel has not been an easy one for the team behind the event.”
The announcement is especially surprising given the festival’s strong line-up which was set to include Supergrass, the New Pornographers and Conor Oberst. Local bands scheduled to play included The Panics, Paul Kelly, Pikelet and The Mess Hall.
Full refunds are available to ticket holders at their point of purchase.
