Two founding members of Wolfmother, Australia’s greatest ever ‘70s rock tribute band, have quit, citing irreconcilable personal and musical differences.
Chris Ross (bass/keys) and Myles Heskett (drums) have resigned from the Grammy Award-winning band, leaving singer/guitarist Andrew Stockdale to forge ahead alone.
According to a statement on the band’s website, Stockdale now plans to find other musicians to record a new album with. (Is a series of Rock Star Wolfmother on the cards?)
The band’s final performance came at Splendour in the Grass at Byron Bay’s Belongil Fields on August 3.
"Following that show Chris Ross decided to announce that he was leaving the band due to irreconcilable personal and musical differences," the statement said.
"Myles Heskett has also decided to leave the band rather than continuing as part of a changed lineup. The pair has been working together on songs for some time and they plan to focus their energies on that new project in the future."
Since forming in 2003, the Sydney trio have taken the world by storm, selling more than 1.3 million copies of their debut album and winning a swag of ARIA awards. Other career highlights include performances at “just about every major music festival in the world”, a special performance inducting Led Zeppelin into the UK’s Rock’n’roll Hall of Fame and a barnstorming set to 50 people at 161 in 2004.
