The Presets Hit Number One

For the second time in a month, a Modular act has hit number one on the ARIA album charts.

Sydney electro duo The Presets have repeated the efforts of label-mates Cut Copy, debuting at number one with their sophomore release, Apocalypso. Cog – Bondi’s greatest exponents of bogan prog – came in at number two.

Pre-released online in early April, Apocalypso rocketed to the top of Apple’s iTunes chart within a day. It was also album of the week on national youth radio station, Triple J.

But the real litmus test will be whether Apocalypso can maintain its high chart position.

Since debuting at number one, Cut Copy’s In Ghost Colours has been on a steady slide. It’s now sandwiched between The Kooks and Newton Faulkner – some lame English balladeer with ginger dreadlocks -- at number nine.
