Laura Jean Launches Eden Land

Melbourne singer-songwriter Laura Jean will release her second album on March 1. Titled Eden Land, it's the follow up to her acclaimed 2006 debut, Our Swan Song. Recorded over 5 days by Chris Townend at Big Jesus Burger studios in Sydney, Eden Land features a core group of players rather than the revolving ensemble assembled at various intervals for the creation of her first album. It will also be, apparently, "an unashamed concept record."

Her website goes further: "Eden Land explores ideas of self-discovery, sexual awakening and loss of innocence through a suite of nine interconnected songs. 'On one level it's a breakup album,' she says. 'On another level it's about leaving a safe situation to experience life. And on another level this album is about becoming aware of my sexuality. And that all ties in with the concept of Eden, someone leaving an idyllic place, kind of pre-awareness, to experience life, which is bound by physicality.'

The album has also been picked up by UK label Co-Operative/V2, and will be released in Europe later this year. So far there is only one Australian date to launch the album.
