It’s a good time to be The Panics. The Perth five-piece have been added to the bill of next March’s Golden Plains festival, while their third album, Cruel Guards, picked up the J Award, radio network Triple J’s annual award for the best Australian album. Their selection improves the award’s strike rate – previous winners were Wolfmother and Hilltop Hoods – and drew the following response from frontman Jae Laffer:
“It feels like it’s worth so many years of work we’ve put into this thing. We’re not an overnight success, we’re a group that thinks long and hard about the direction of the music we make. We would simply like to be a band that means something to people, a band that is remembered for years to come for being a group that mad ea great record,” he said.
As well as Golden Plains, The Panics play the Falls and Southbound festivals in January and tour nationally with the Laneway Festival in February.
