THE VINES return to the studio later this month, recording in Los Angeles with producer Rob Schnapf, who handled the group’s first two albums. Craig Nicholls and company, whose Big Day Out shows at the beginning of the year were solidly entertaining compared to previous mishaps, are now signed to Ivy League, the independent label run by their long-time managers. The band plays the Metro Theatre in Sydney tonight, as part of the label’s tenth anniversary celebrations... A variety of Melbourne musicians are represented in THE MISSING CHORD, a group art exhibition running at Carlton’s St James Gallery (127 Lygon St) from Saturday 17 November to Saturday 1 December. Those with works featured include Ben Montero (Treetops), Si Francis (Wagons) and Rui Pereira (ex-The Drones)... Perth singer-songwriter JOSH FONTAINE won the Grand Prize at the 2007 WAM Song of the year competition, with his track ‘Holidayz’ getting the nod above everything else put out in West Australia this year. The track was released on a split 7-inch by local label Love Is My Velocity and among other honours picked up a Mess+Noise review in June...
