The Gate and Preservation are pleased to announce the next instalment of The Gate’s Sound/Light/Stone series - incredible music and lighting in a beautiful 1850s church (3 York St, Sydney)
Under the guise of Grand Salvo, Paddy Mann has established himself as a songwriter of unique heart and soul with a depth of lyricism matched by a warm but widescreen musical vision. Already long-listed for the 2012 Australian Music Prize, this year’s Slay Me In My Sleep has seen Grand Salvo’s best acclaim and recognition for its unabashedly romantic tale of star-crossed lovers. Its folky warmth, orchestral expanse and lyrical vision makes for yet another exquisite work from a man with a singularly captivating way.
Slay Me In My Sleep also features vocal contributions from Heather Woods Broderick. Having performed and recorded previously with Efterklang, Heather currently plays in Sharon Van Etten’s band. Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter in her own right, Heather recorded her solo album for Preservation, From The Ground, in 2009, with the help of her brother Peter Broderick. Heather’s rich and resonant hold a magical air in their blending of folk intimacy and ambient realms.
As Seaworthy, Cameron Webb has developed singular soundscapes scored with guitar-driven ambience, field recording and digital processing for nearly a decade. His compositions reflect his deep connection to environment and nature; each piece often feels like a journey through beautiful, untethered terrain. His album for Preservation, Bellows and Breath, pares back his trademark guitar to build a work based largely around harmonium, melodica and found sounds - a bold new step in his special and personal trajectory.
