Taking a break from preparing to record their first album in 30 years, this is the only gig that the Primitive Calculators have booked for this year. They now describe themselves as “uglier, older, more brutal, more futile, more worthless than ever. Why don’t they just give up. Stupid old kuntz(e). This is sad.'' Its not really, actually its liberating to find a band that stands by its founding principles, refuses to acknowledge anything approaching a music industry and still plays punk cum post-punk cum no-wave like no other!
They are bravely supported on this occasion by the Paul Kidney Experience. After slaying devotees in Adelaide, launching a split Cd into outer space upon their return and free punking it up supporting Embers at the newly re-opened Tote, the question must be asked “is there anything the Paul Kidney Experience thinks they cannot do?” This seven piece coagulation of local legends such as The Stabs and Baseball foolishly challenge Primitive Calculators’s grip on the primordial crown - surely they will cower away at night's end!
As if that was not enough dysfunction for one night, the opening act is a rare coupling of Simmons (sax) & O'Dwyer (percussion) with 60s legend of free jazz and unstoppable saxophonical force Kris Wanders (Global Unity Orchestra). This team of noise builders will mechanically wreck explorations of paradoxical momentums and freedom with flurry the engine driving the engulfed players into audience ears.
Miss this and you might as well find new friends, eight freakin bux!
