Low-fi folk artist Grouper (aka Liz Harris) tours nationally throughout October.
A modern pioneer, Grouper's sonic style evolves and adapts with each release. Traversing reverb drenched planes both acoustic and electronic, Grouper's sound is underpinned by an intelligent sense of traditional folk composition and a dark, haunting mystery that permeates though her live performances. Moody but beautiful, her music summons an unequi...vocal calm that builds with each layer of sound she creates. 2008's Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill was one of the first releases to awaken an international interest, landing in a place in both Pitchfork and Gorilla vs Bear's top records of the year. Since then Liz has released a number of short-run singles and EPs including a split 12'' with Roy Montgomery.
Having recently supported Animal Collective throughout their US Merriweather Post Pavilion tour, Grouper graces Perth with an intimate performance at The Bakery on 10 October.
''Grouper is Portland, Oregon's Liz Harris, drenched in so much reverb that she sounds almost intangible-- like a voice calling up from the bottom of the ocean.'' - Pitchfork
''Ms. Harris, seated at the small table, twiddled knobs and urged the speaker system to slowly encircle the audience with a subtly changing series of dense drones in a syrupy-super-slow-motion-Leslie-Amplifier effect as she gradually faded extremely delicate melodies in and out of the center of the sound mix.'' - review of NY performance by Christien Lauro
''Liz Harris’ spooky, ethereal and surreal sounds are based on her acoustic, often avant garde guitar plucking and her quiet, hazy vocals. The minor key melodies are pretty despite a suspenseful nightmare quality.'' - NBC Washington
WA, 7000, Australia.
