We Come From Garageland

A snapshot of the Australian Underground 11pm every Wednesday on 2ser 107.3FM

download previous shows

Every Wednesday night at 11pm, We Come From Garageland celebrates the latest from Australia's underground music scene. Tune in to 2ser FM 107.3 in Sydney, or stream it worldwide at 2ser.com.

It is an extremely exciting and important time for Australian independent music, in which a lot of artists are dismissing the lure of mainstream dollars and exposure, preferring to set up their own labels, distribution, networks and events.

This approach has helped to build a borderless community that is prolific and supportive beyond the dreams of any of the kids that started it. We Come From Garageland is a snapshot of this movement, and is a true representation of its Do It Yourself aesthetic.

Each week the hosts of We Come From Garageland, Kurt and Dice, share stories, opinions and reviews of the music, art and activism that is changing the way that people think, perform, interact, promote and create, in Australia and abroad. We Come From Garageland features live-to-air sets, recordings of local gigs and artist released recordings, as well as interviews with bands and with mainstays of the local and international DIY scene.

Independent artists that wish to be featured on We Come From Garageland can send MP3s to wecomefromgarageland@2ser.com, or tapes, CDs and records to We Come From Garageland, PO Box 123, Broadway NSW AUSTRALIA 2007. For track listings, updates and MP3s, you can check myspace.com/wecomefromgarageland and wecomefromgarageland.blogspot.com.

Also look out for the regular We Come From Garageland hard copy zine, with an overview of the past month in Sydney's live music scene including reviews, interviews, artwork, and a CDR featuring live recordings exclusive to We Come From Garageland.

For more information on We Come From Garageland, to speak to the presenters, request a zine, or to join the mailing list, please email wecomefromgarageland@2ser.com, or call.

And make sure that you tune in every Wednesday night to share the music that we don't want the majors to hear.

So is this all stuff from the late 70s/early 80s, the period covered by the "Notes From The Australian Underground" CDs?

kabukiboy  said about 4 years ago:

is that serious? go listen, or check out the playlists....

T J Honeysuckle  said about 4 years ago:

Sorry, yes it was serious. That bit I quoted makes it sound like it would be old-school independent punk stuff.
I can't get into myspace or listen to mp3s right now, my workplace blocks access to them.
So, I guess the answer is "no"?

whale  said about 4 years ago:

good show, this.

kurt  said about 4 years ago:

Hey everyone! Thanks for listening! We've had some difficulty over the past month or so - file name error on some pre-recorded shows... sorry about that. Also, that show that y'all heard on Tuesday night was to fill in, as the previous tuesday 7pm 2ser show, Crooked Tunes, had finished up, and the replacement - Tape Relay - doesn't start 'til next week. For some reason, 2ser thought it would be cool to have WCFG fill in!!!! Basically, we just edited together some old shows!!!! Ahhhh, the magic of radio.

The show will be back to normal as of this coming Wednesday, August 15 - 11pm on 2ser FM, 107.3 in Sydney, or stream it live from www.2ser.com. If you're looking to download the show, the site that we'd hosted some on has deleted them (my fault), so just head to virb.com/wecomefromgarageland and download/listen from there. We'll start putting the newer ones up there soon.

Thanks so much to everyone that's supported this show, or even just listened to it. If you've got music that you'd like us to play, email us!!! wecomefromgarageland@2ser.com.

And go to kabukiboy's shows at the pitz (if you're in Sydney) - we'd be fucked without them!!! They're every weekend pretty much. (promise i'll make it again soon, Shaun!!!) Subscribe to his email list to find out more - seriously.. It's the only way to find out about the good shit going on in Sydney (apart from our show - but we just rip the gig guide from his emails anyway). Just head to tenzenmen.com/maillist/coolandunusual.shtml.

Much love

Kurt + Dice

Whatever happened to that NZ band Garageland? They had that awesome song ''Kiss it all Goodbye''

shortrockus  said about 4 years ago:

What? No more Crooked Tunes?

trafficsounds  said about 4 years ago:

sorry no crooked tunes anymore, john needs a break. but he will be back as a regular on the new show Tape Relay with the ''Life at 45rpm'' segment. the important question remains of course: should he continue at ''N'' or start afresh at ''A''? stay tuned to find out!

awesome, nice going Kurt. I was listening to a song that goes 'repetition repetition repetition' etc etc the other day and thought of you.

goldbuttons  said about 2 years ago:

I thought you were going to say ''I'm going to play a Grey Daturas track to celebrate that they're breaking up''. Ha.

shaun  said about 2 years ago:

Haha, well I certainly didn't mean to go down that route. Presenting solo is hard. Lia is back next week!

TCB  said about 2 years ago:

...and Lia can be heard asking me questions about Athol's new album this week.

shaun  said about 2 years ago:

yep. tonight they'll be an interview with ATHOL as well as new stuff from the Bedroom Suck label (Extrafoxx, Swamplord) as well as new TACO LEG, CASH CROPS (Nic from Ghosts of Television), SPITFIRE PARADE, and lots of other stuff.
