all ages venue in sydney?

penny_d  said about 4 years ago  or at  3:24PM on Tuesday, June 12 2007 in chat

Yo people..

I am looking for an all ages venue in Sydney that can hold around 500-700 people. Preferably looking for a space that is not someones home - so it can legally or sort of-legally operate as a venue.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. It seems like the impossible dream at this point..

Annandale holds about 400 and SOMETIMES has all ages gigs.
Otherwise, you're looking at PCYC's I'd imagine.

ha now THAT is what im talkin bout...

PCYC - has anyone been to a show at any PCYC in sydney? There is one in redfern, yes?

Roselands has a stage

there's the fitz on the north shore, but it ain't 500-700. they hold all ages there regularly. there's also a few others who have spaces around the north side... willoughby and chatswood and whatnot. but yeah, you're probably looking at PCYCs

kabukiboy  said about 4 years ago:

the fitz probably holds more than the annandale i reckon.....more pubs should do all ages shows....

MattuS  said about 4 years ago:

Try The Factory, they have some all ages shows.

The Gaelic Club does too.

columbo  said about 4 years ago:

yeah, i was gonna say the Factory Theatre too

UNSW Roundhouse and Sydney Uni Manning Bar act as all-ages venues. dunno capacity though

JohnnyV  said about 4 years ago:

what sort of crowd are you looking at? What bands?

If its rock/metal, out in the suburbs there are community centres and the like that might suit better..

Mrmusic  said about 4 years ago:

Yeah, both would be in the region Penny is asking for.

penny_d  said about 4 years ago:

cool

i was kinda trying to stay out of pubs with this one.. so maybe the community centre or theatre option. I guess ideally i am looking for the equivilant of say, Cloud City in melbourne. (Where Tenniscoats, Pikelet and the Evans recently played)

Has anyone been to a show @ Manning Bar yet?

Thanks for all the suggestions..

i've been to manning bar a long long time ago - was ok.....i reckon factory would be your best bet - they are pretty keen on getting things booked there....

Mitzi_  said about 4 years ago:

i go to manning quite regularly, its a pretty sweet venue, sounds good, and you can see well from pretty much anywhere in the place, and it'll hold about the amount of people you want

Mrmusic  said about 4 years ago:

Question is, will you be able to get 400-700 kids willing to pay $20+ to see a gig in a warehouse in Marrackville?

Mitzi_  said about 4 years ago:

factory is pretty good too

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

depends who's playing i would think....there's no warehouse in marrickville with that capacity anyway

manning bar is excellent, though i havent been there for ages.
factory is also pretty cool, but a lot bigger and cavernous and not as easy to get to.

this is true, its a great venue, but the prices are a bit steep, id imagine the over heads of that place are fair big...
manning prices can be kept down cos its at the uni

Mrmusic  said about 4 years ago:

Talking about The Factory, Kabuki.

kabukiboy  said about 4 years ago:

ok - but it's not a warehouse (like the pitz or mgtvle) - it is a little out of the way in comparison to manning bar but because they are keen to put on shows they may be more forthcoming

penny_d  said about 4 years ago:

It can be difficult to keep the costs down on the warehouse show - bringing in PA, lights etc. Then again, at least it is a show that everyone can attend. Then again, every time i have put on the all ages show for international band, the room is filled with the over 18ers and about 5 underagers. its tricky..

Mrmusic  said about 4 years ago:

Yeah, I know, I meant factory. I've never been inside, but from the outside it looks like a glorified warehouse.

MattuS  said about 4 years ago:

kids get to the roundhouse (me include) which is a bitch to get to.

The Oxford Tavern, Petersham.
