Rocco's Shoes

porkiepie  said about 1 year ago  or at  11:44PM on Monday, June 11 2007.

I am very keen to buy some shoes from the man/ this shop on Station Street in Malvern .
Was just wondering if anyone has bought some from here? What are they like? Money well spent?

I haven't... but have a friend who has two pairs. Says they're excellent.

Peaches  said about 1 year ago:

Yep, friend of a friend of a friend o mine says they're great.

If I could wear $300 boots more than one day a week I could justify it, definitely!

do it...

bungle  said about 1 year ago:

They're good for the price.

Every man and his dog has a pair now though.

ratz  said about 1 year ago:

moke has a pair and he reckons they're ace. nice quality too.

T J Honeysuckle  said about 1 year ago:

I have had mine (black pointed cuban heel, high ankle, side zip) for 20+ years. With polish & resoling, they last and last. Top value. My girlfriend bought eight pairs of her fave custom mades a few years back, when Rocco himself retired from the bench.
Save up, and do it. Everyone should have a pair.

porkiepie  said about 1 year ago:

Bungle- but not every pair is the same, you can get them custom made cant you?

porkiepie  said about 1 year ago:

Awesome TJ, im certain i want a pair now, how much do they cost on average?

T J Honeysuckle  said about 1 year ago:

Think they start at $100+ these days, depends on what you want. Knee high are more expensive than ankle, zips more than elastic sides, snakeskin more than plain leather etc.
I actually walked past there today, they have a sale on.

Sale. Rad. I'm going there on Saturday for sure.

porkiepie  said about 1 year ago:

thanks HEB, i cant do that search via Google it doesnt seem to be working for me, surely im doing it wrong.

bungle  said about 1 year ago:

Last I checked a pair of ankle high shoes in standard leather cost under $200, which is really inexpensive for custom made. This was early last year though, I'd expect their prices may have changed in the interim due to the increase in popularity.

T J Honeysuckle  said about 1 year ago:

They don't have a website, just a phone and shopfront.

Timebomb  said about 1 year ago:

last time i bought shoes there they didn't even have a phone. just the shopfront.. give them 30 years and they might have a website!

socks  said about 1 year ago:

They're all leather, aren't they? Nothing for the anti-leather set?

T J Honeysuckle  said about 1 year ago:

Think there is some vinyl there, too.
Nice to see you post about shoes, socks.

svelteslacks  said about 1 year ago:

No telephone, no website. None of this modern crap.

Retarded question, but does anyone know if Rocco's is open this week, or if they're still on Chrissie / New Year's break?

Must. Buy. Boots.

jimmylimousine  said 6 days ago:

GASP

FrankieTeardrop  said 6 days ago:

Thanks jimmy. I might just browse on Monday!

FrankieTeardrop  said 6 days ago:

I found this info re. opening hours, prices, etc on a blog from 2007:

I love having something made especially for me. Rocco, an Italian with a passion for all kinds of leather, has a shop in Malvern (43 Station St, Malvern, Melbourne, Australia) that has been catering to rock and roll types for probably longer than I've been alive.

I had a pair made specifically to my tastes and the shape of my foot. Here are the results

$170 will get you a pair of bespoke shoes, or $150 for a pair of the shelf. There are A LOT of pairs on the shelf, and not just shoes, but boots with round or pointy toes. Go get yourself a pair of originals. Rocco's doesn't have a phone, they are open 10-5 during the week and 9-12.30 on Saturday.

Nice! What's your preferred design, Frankie?

FrankieTeardrop  said 6 days ago:

Black zip-up ankle boots with not too much of a heel. Kinda like this:

FrankieTeardrop  said 6 days ago:

Errr... unfortunately jimmy was wrong!
I made the trek out to Malvern this morning only to be greeted by a sign on the door advising that Rocco's is closed until 19 January.

Bugger!

Block  said 3 days ago:

the trek out to Malvern

So that's:
Richmond
South Yarra
Hawksburn
Toorak
Armadale
and finally, Malvern.

Some trek, Frankie! I hope you had plenty of food and water!

Block  said 3 days ago:

But, yes, bugger.

JRB  said 3 days ago:

I love me Rocco's:

FrankieTeardrop  said 3 days ago:

Some trek, Frankie!

It was hot, and I didn't like the look of those teenagers on the train. But I survived :)

Ron  said 3 days ago:

The place is harder to get into than Fort Knox!

PS No tour groups go through Fort Knox:
