paulie  said about 4 years ago:

I know! although today there were shades of that old falling asleep in the final quarter ghost floating around. but i agree, it's looking pretty rosey for the cats.

mcbaino  said about 4 years ago:

I am in love with James Bartel. He's a lovely young boy.

paulie  said about 4 years ago:

bump for this arvo. KARN CATTAS!

porkiepie  said about 4 years ago:

geelong is a crappy town

paulie  said about 4 years ago:

what an odd comment.

porkiepie  said about 4 years ago:

not really, it does have some relevance...to geelong. not really regarding the football club
but geelong IS a crappy twon

paulie  said about 4 years ago:

yeah, i lived in geelong for a good part of my childhood/teen years. it's a bit like shepparton, but bigger and closer to melbourne. it's like anywhere i guess, a lot nicer if you have friends there.

paulie  said about 4 years ago:

i don't know why i chose shep by the way, it's a country town. and geelong is bigger. this thread's really fucking pumping, eh?

*reaches for the lasers

porkiepie  said about 4 years ago:

well, i've never been to shepparton. my friends says there is lots of lavender there or something.
how boring.

paulie  said about 4 years ago:

don't know about lavender, maybe. I saw lots of obese women there, wearing floral tights and sweathog jumpers, pushing jumbo trolleys full of slabs of generic brand cola, chips and meat pies, and it reminded me of corio village.

porkiepie  said about 4 years ago:

yes! corio. the worst suburb in geelong. lovely place.

paulie  said about 4 years ago:

ok enough geelong bashing, back to footy. the GFC are in premiership form at the moment, who thinks they can go the distance?

it would be really strange if there were only two geelong followers on this board. say it ain't so.

porkiepie  said about 4 years ago:

nah they live in a too crappy town to go the distance

paulie  said about 4 years ago:

see that's just mean.

porkiepie  said about 4 years ago:

haha perhaps i should start my own thread dedicated to paying-out Geelong?
i didnt even know that geelong had a real football team?

mcbaino  said about 4 years ago:

i need to come up with a team of the worst Geelong players from 1980 onwards.
anyone geelong folk out there got some shockers I may have missed??

heres what i have thus far:

b: T Malakelis A Rogers S Handley
hb: M Shultz A McCrabb J Rahilly
c: D Clarke A Lord S Bamford
hf: M Neeld M White T Allen
f: B Grigic B Spinks C Gardiner
foll: S Hooper J Lamb D Spriggs
int: D Mensch J Mooney G Cameron

marz102  said about 4 years ago:

Does this include current players?? If so, put ''Shannon fucking Bynes'' at the head of the class. Kane Tenace isn't great either.
I'd also put Tristian Lynch (Brisbane reject) on this list. I think you might be a bit rough on Spriggs. He had a load of potential till he did his knee. He also was named as an emergency in one of the Swans grand finals.
David Mensch is a funny one. So crap but would very occasionally pull out a big game. One game that sticks in my mind is he kicking the winning goal against the Pies down at skilled. I have never forgiven him for that.

P.S. Wait for fakeplasticme to join this thread, she'll have a bundle to name.

fakeplasticme  said about 4 years ago:

How about Henry Playfair? Paul ''Torture'' Chambers? Tristian Lynch? Mitchell White (so much promise from West Coast, so little delivered)? Ezra Bray (what a waste of a top 10 draft pick!)?

Agree with Spinks, Grgic, Hooper, Spriggs, David Clarke Jnr etc but I think you're being overly harsh on Aaron Lord, Jason Mooney and The Big Menschy. All three were decent forwards with an abundance of injury problems - and in Mensch's case, the weight of the entire Geelong and Corio region on his shoulders.

fakeplasticme  said about 4 years ago:

And yeah, from the current bunch definitely Shannon Byrnes. Give it six months and the likes of Prismall and Davenport will be ahead of him in the pecking order.

Basically if you bump someone these days and they get injured you are fucked. Wojo said that he was going to tackle him and then had to brace at the last minute otherwise he was going to be shirtfronted. Really nothing in it. I mean really his shoulder hit him in the face. The guy is smaller...shit happens.

GrantleyBuffalo  said 14 days ago:

Wojo SAID that, but the vision showed otherwise.

chimpassgimp666  said 14 days ago:

It was pretty quick...the vision and the incident. I mean how much time did he have to assess the situation? Broken jaw = gone. If the kid got up injury free Wojo would have got nuthin'.

jimmy hutspah  said 14 days ago:

Viney changed direction and Wojo couldnt move to tackle.

Understand the head high/injury thing - but some people are stronger than others. what might hurt you might not hurt me. How is it fair that if you happen to bump someone who is as weak us piss, you end up with weeks, but if you bump someone who jumps straight up and continues playing you get off scot free. Surely it should be the action, not the consequence.

jimmy hutspah  said 14 days ago:

am certainly not saying viney is weak as piss either, mind you.

GrantleyBuffalo  said 14 days ago:

Exactly. He sure as hell didn't have time to think, ''Gonna tackle, gonna tackle, wait... brace for impact!''

He lined the kid up for what COULD have been a good, solid bump, and unfortunately broke his jaw.

chimpassgimp666  said 14 days ago:

The Melb supporters who are all whinging about how 'Wojo beats up on kids' are as weak as piss. FFS they are playing a contact sport with men...most of them large men.

chimpassgimp666  said 10 days ago:

The Adelaide was a really depressing game to watch. Haven't seen us play that bad for a while. It reminded me of that Collingwood final in 2010 where they made us look real old and slow. Adelaide were pretty good though...thanks to Sando and Dasher...

If we don't beat Collingwood on Friday we are in a little bit of strife I'd say. Jeez Varcoe and Wojo can't come back quick enough really. We are really lacking pace and dash out of the backline. I don't dig CS playing only one ruckman either and fucking up Hawkins' form with playing him in the ruck but I guess they don't think the Big O is up to it yet. If West goes down we are really in the shit.

H

jimmy hutspah  said 10 days ago:

Big O has to play. i never thought I'd ever say this - but we could do with Mark Blake right now. The decision was made and then Big Otto threw the curve ball by retiring and Dawson Simpson and Vardy got long term injuries. They might have kept big Blakey on in hindsight. But Big O has to play if only to relieve West and ensure Hawkins doesnt play ruck. Yeah we're in a spot of bother. Wojo getting suspended was a fucking monumental fuck up. Getting games into kids is good, but need the likes of Chapman, Corey, Enright, Scarlo, Taylor, SJ, Hunt etc to stand up now and show the way. have to beat one of carlton or collingwood in the next month otherwise its curtains. In saying that, I do think we - along with Hawthorn and Collingwood - have the ability to win the flag from outside the 4 this year.

jimmy hutspah  said 10 days ago:

Our depth is not what it was, but when you lose Ablett, Rooke, Milburn, Ling, Ottens and Mooney in the space of 12 months, thats gonna happen...

hungryhungryhippo  said 9 days ago:

Jimmy I don't get where this Dawson Simpson talkup is coming from. He played bugger all games at a senior level to warrant this talk that he is 'missed' at the moment. This Blake talk is ludicrous.

Big O needs some time in the magoos- this is not unreasonable. He didn't automatically blow everyone away at senior level but yikes- that's pretty rare for someone to make that kind of jump and automatically slot in. Wouldn't rule him out to play later in the year just yet.

Strip away the overstated headline and I completely agree with everything Scott says here.
http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/scotts-bold-flag-call-20120514-1yn2y.html If we actually start stringing some games together I think we could win it from outside the top 4- a number of teams could. If this start to the season happened in any of the previous seasons, forget about it but we are lucky that this year just isn't panning out like that and we could have an opportunity.

Dare to dream Jimmy!

chimpassgimp666  said 9 days ago:

Pretty much agree with that HHH. I can understand what Jimmy is saying about Blake but nah we don't need him he is far too one dimensional. We really need two ruckman though. Westy has been good but its stretching it ain't it? Yeah I guess people have high hopes for Dawson but it would be pretty unlikely that he would just walk into the team and tear shings up. Vardy's injury on the other hand...well he showed a bit didn't he and we could really use him at the moment.

All the shit from fuckheads like Darcy saying that we don't have the desire...winning 3 premierships etc etc is pretty laughable. Yeah some of our older boys are slowing down but don't have the desire lol.

hungryhungryhippo  said 9 days ago:

Yup- they are a hungry competitive lot those older blokes. Darce should know better.

jimmy hutspah  said 7 days ago:

I still have faith. This year is wide open and if anyone can snag it, we can., Just got to get our timing right, and win enough that we dont have to play a cut throat week 1 or 2 final in Perth. I've been impressed by Dawson everytime he's played. And hes a big body. I dont really care who it is, as long as we have a semi capable ruckman to support West. It's fucking with our structure to only play one ruckman, Scott is aware of it - we went through it last year. They just dont seem to have faith in Big O, and the whole reason they recruited him was because they thought he could come straight in and play, in leui of Simpson and Vardy being available for a few months. TThings are looking up - Apparently Simpson is only a couple weeks off resuming, and Menzel will play again around mid year, Varcoe also. Gotta win this week though. Just gotta.

BigBoysSocks  said 7 days ago:

Both teams bringing in 3 or 4 good players. This is shaping up to be a cracker!

tig  said 6 days ago:

Signing Menzel was really important, making sure we keep this next group together and hold the culture from this era intact. Hope we get his brother as well!

I agree Dawson would be playing every game this year if he was fit. Missing Donnie and Wojak alot.

chimpassgimp666  said 6 days ago:

Very good decision bringing the Big O in tonight. If we can also rotate West in the forward line that will really stretch Collingwood's backline. Yeah Menzel signing is fantastic. Just hope our midfield are onsong tonight. Can't wait...
