The Tote thread is bringing out some memories of the first time people went there. This is more general.
My first gig- Saints, Models & Pop Gun Men at the Crystal Ballroom. I was 14 and bit years old, tagged along with my older brother and some of his mates and was amazed I got in. Amazed by a lot of things that night, actually.
Do tell.

i wish i could remember the first pub gig but the BFF and I argue about this constantly. it was probably at the duke of ediburgh when it wasn't a sauna, circa 1987
1988 at the Piggery in Byron Bay, my older brother took me to see the Hitmen DTK. I was 14. The drummer gave me his drumsticks after the gig. I remember being pretty damn chuffed.
Presidents of the USA supported by Custard at the Hordern in 1995.
Second was You Am I at the Metro later that year.
A lot of local gigs, but barely living up to everyone else, i saw the Mighty Mighty Bosstones at 13 with my dad.

The old boy took me to see AC/DC when I was 12...I liked that.
First "gig" I went to on my own was an all ages at the Palace w/ Cosmic Psychos, Hard-Ons, Meanies and Root Beer when I was 15.

Skunk Anansie in Durban, '98
First gig as a kid was the rock steady crew somewhere in Canberra and first gig after I was 18 was Mudhoney at the Palace in LA 1991. That one was better, but the rock steady crew was pretty cool at the time, thanks dad
That's nuts. SOmetimes I think CoOp purely exists as an alternate version of myself, born at the right time, in the right job with the right opinion 10 years before I get it.
My first proper gig was Ratcat at the Hobart Town Hall, if you don't count being given a ticket to BB King by..uh...BB King when I was 14.
I've got a photo of me and BB King from when I was about 2, from when he came over to see my old man in about 75.
Wicked. We're probably related.
Maybe I'm your strange cousin?
I would trade my kidney to see that show.
Jefferson Starship, Manchester Centre, age about 6.
First festival - BDO 94 Ramones, Roland S Howard, Soundgarden, Meanies
First small gig - Magic Dirt, Screamfeeder, Tumbleweed, You am i at Croydon All ages.
I can't believe I haven't posted in this thread before.
Anyway, I grew up in Germany, so the first gigs I saw were local bands at youth clubs and shows that were put on at schools, which was a regular kind of thing. Obviously they weren't very memorable, as I can't recall any names or anything particularly interesting about them.
My first big concert was Bob Dylan in 1981, at a big outdoor venue on a cliff top overlooking the Rhine river. I was 13 at the time. My friend Thomas was a huge Dylan fan and we persuaded our parents to let us go on our own and camp out in a tent. I remember the tent was made from really heavy canvas and weighed a ton. My main recollection is smoking a lot of pot and being really bored by Dylan, because none of the songs sounded the same as the records. Major disappointment.
I was equally bored when I saw The Rolling Stones at a football stadium in Cologne a few months later. They were just timy dots in the distance and the sound was tinny and weak.
Then I saw Einsturzende Neubauten lay waste to a squatted chocolate factory... and I was no longer bored.
Jo Jo zepp and the falcons. Shepparton high school assembly hall/basketball court. 1988. it was great! Made me switch from trumpet to drums.
first concert was either the Police at festival hall or Kiss at VFL Park around 1980 i think.
The Slowdive show was very good.
16 year old me was convinced Rachel Goswell was giving me the eye all the way through the show. It was the night before the ''Morningrise EP'' was released.
It was a good year in Aberdeen. The next few months, and hence my 2nd, 3rd, 4th shows were Kitchens Of Distinction (awesome), Moose (supported by an extremely young Cranberries who were a decent Smiths-copy band that gave no suggestion of the horror that would follow years later), Ride (in restrospect, so far ahead ot the others), Lush (Mmmm Miki) Catherine Wheel (hmm), Spiritualized (when they were just a Spaceman 3 offshoot), several Teenage Fanclub shows (all faultless) and Revolver (who probably weren't all that good, but interestingly their drummer manages Avalanches now).
Fun times, plus I made a bit of money on the side making fake IDs for people to get in.
Madonna at the MCG when I was in grade 3. Yes, grade 3. My aunt had free front row tickets.
First overage show I went to was Ash at the Corner when I was in year 8. Fuck knows how I got in. It was on a school night and I had one beer. I thought I was so badass.
Good times.
oh shut up Cooperative....just SHUT UP!
This is SO uncool but I went to Suzanne Vega with my Best friend when I was 12!
then Violent Femmes when I was 13.
Ah, you're all young (mostly). Human League, I think at the Palais. I won the tickets in a radio competition, after sitting next to the phone for hours. I took my cousin because I didn't have any friends who liked them.
Yeah, but for all those good bands, there was always a Kingmaker, a Thousand Yard Stare or a Mega City 4 to sit through too. Or Radiohead. Around the time of their first album they were on practically every tour. I saw them three times in 6 months and they were absolutely horrible.
Alice Coopers @ Adelaide Entertainment Centre when I was 13
Bruce Springsteen or Queen, can't remember which one was first, mid 80's, then few years later AC/DC at the tennis centre, and it bucketed rain after it (hells bells)
Simple Minds at Sports & Entertainment Center on Once Upon A Time tour - 1985.
