I avoid creation as a rule.

Jesus, son of God  said about 5 years ago:

creation is good for the shoegazer, rough trade is good for the post-punk.

thread closed.

shhh  said about 5 years ago:

hmmm, creation?

for my bloody valentine alone?

yokesthetenth  said about 5 years ago:

Rough Trade

I can't think of anything I own that's released by Creation, what's their story?

steveholt  said about 5 years ago:

are the smiths enough to give it to rough trade?

why would you avoid creation? super furry animals, mbv, primal scream. jeepers tough crowd

yokesthetenth  said about 5 years ago:

Oh, shoegazer.

Rough Trade for deffo.

shhh  said about 5 years ago:

i have thought about it now and i like both of them

steveholt  said about 5 years ago:

oh fuck and teenage fanclub for creation how could i forget.

Modi  said about 5 years ago:

It was a lame joke, steveholt.

I was making reference to creationism as a theory, not the record label.

HEB  said about 5 years ago:

What next?
Mute vs 4AD?
Factory vs Zoo?
Jeepster vs Sarah?

flobs  said about 5 years ago:

You're talking the English Rough Trade, right...? They did On Fire by Galaxie 500. Rough Trade in the U.S. did all kindsa stuff, like Butthole Surfers, etc.

On the other hand, Creation did some noisier stuff; like Silverfish. Then again, Creation are responsible for Oasis... make of that what you will.

I think Creation wins the day for me; House of Love, MBV, (early) Ride... good stuff.

switchbladesisters  said about 5 years ago:

Creation or Poptones?

haha.

switchbladesisters  said about 5 years ago:

BTW Rough Trade wins, due to James Blood Ulmer's 'Are You Glad To Be In America?'

and The Raincoats

yokesthetenth  said about 5 years ago:

I just did some research, I'm not sure either of them are all that. I thought I liked Rough Trade more than I do..

flobs  said about 5 years ago:

To confuse matters, Geoff Travis relaunched Rough Trade Records under the name Rough Trade Recordings

steveholt  said about 5 years ago:

primal screams xtrmntr was a great album. apparently primal scream released last single ever on creation.

filterfeed  said about 5 years ago:

love creation. super furry animals, my bloody valentine, primal scream, teenage fanclub, ride, boo radleys, the telescopes, slowdive...awesome stuff.

also released some utter tripe. like heavy stereo. but, you know.

Nabila  said about 5 years ago:

Rough Trade.

filterfeed  said about 5 years ago:

oops, forgot some other favourites...jesus and mary chain and swervedriver!

number none  said about 5 years ago:

Cooperative Music  said about 1 year ago:

It was Rough Trade Distribution that went bankrupt rather than the label, although it took the label with it.
Rough Trade's legacy also includes the shop and what was, for a while, a great distribution company (which distributed Creation). Creation has a bunch of great records, and years of McGee being a drugged-up rent-a-quote. Although in releasing ''Loveless'', ''Bandwagonesque'', ''Screamadelica'' and ''Nowhere'' in an 18-month period it propbably had a run of records RT never equalled, Rough Trade is way more important.

Creation, duh.

This is an awesome idea, JunkiePhil. Can't wait! I reckon Three Month Sunset could pull off a mean Slowdive, too.

Hey filterfeed, see you on the 23rd of July :)

filterfeed  said about 1 year ago:

but but but - i'm in sydney next weekend. poor filterfeed.

TransientRandom  said about 1 year ago:

awesome, about to inform the troops, just looking for a suitable place or event to meet.

electricsound  said about 1 year ago:

terrible interview

if anyone doesn't get the spirit of what creation was about, it seems to be mcgee himself

i wish he would fuck off for good

JunkiePhil  said about 1 year ago:

Yeah, I've read both the books and they're both good.

Rough Trade

steveholt  said about 1 year ago:

Reading this at the moment. Bloody good yarn it is.

electricsound  said about 1 year ago:

great book. totally fascinating until the oasis bit

tugboat  said about 1 year ago:

which book? I can't see your pic.
I really like Manchester: Looking For the Light Through the Pouring Rain.

tugboat  said about 1 year ago:

This one is gold...

Shaun Ryder and Tony Wilson, 1989. The NME had a cover story about Manchester but we didn't think Tony on the cover would sell it, so I asked Shaun along. I worked with the Happy Mondays a lot. When I first met Shaun, Tony bigged me up to him, saying: 'Kevin's shot Joy Division and the Sex Pistols'. Shaun said: 'But they’re all fucking dead,' and I thought, 'Oh dear'
