Anyone else in to it? My favourite hour of the week is on friday night, I spend one hour on the treadmill. It's great. Tonight I covered12.7km. Musically I must listen to the Backyard Babies. At the Drive-In are second best. High energy rock is a must!

i run on the beach, and am just getting back into it again after knee surgery. however, with winter i think i will have to start going to the gym in winter.
but yes - running is ace. you feel so freaking awesome after you have done it.
have you ever boxed? you feel similarly awesome after boxing as after running. it is so good.
i run around my neighbourhood, down by the canal looking at the ducks. it's ace but i don't have proper running shoes so i'm fucking up my right knee more than it already is and my foot as well. i'm gonna by me some runners tomorry.
i don't listen to music because i don't have a suitable player.
i also really need to invest in a sports bra.
i just bought new running shoes. nike make ones called 'nike barefoot' or similar, and it's pretty close to running in bare feet. they are pretty good. i have never found shoes that i could run in comfortably before, cause i found other sneakers too stiff. mind you, they were pretty xpensive... but worth it for me.
and yeah - my sports bra is probably getting a bit old now...
anyone know of any trainers that aren't evil like Nike and Adidas etc? or do they not exist?
Everyday is winter in NOrway, therefore the gym. Running on the beach sounds fun...and hard. Especially after knee surgery! Some specialist told me my knees were in bad form 2 years ago,but I've had no problems since starting to run.
Yes, I too feel freaking awesome, but during the run. ( the last 40 minutes is hard work!) After it is great! I'm so hyped!
I've never boxed. I can see the rush you could get. The body working together and skill involved. I've never considered it... sadly. I can see it as being a similar rash.
you should have a go at it, if you can. it is amazing.
but yeah - my knees are better with running than before i used to run... so i am all for more of it. it strengthens all the other muscles, so i think that is half the battle.
and yes - beach running is fun and hard. the conditions change all the time, so no run is the same. mind you, i will have to get used to the treadmill for the next few months. i hope that the buzz is the same...
might go to join the gym now, and find out.
I like Asics. As a child I used them and as they advertised years ago, ' Some athletes get paid Not to wear our shoes.'
I tried to run around the neigbourhood the other day and found it quite strange. When I had to turn corners I felt weird and I ran alot slower.
i probably should start running. i need to do more aerobic exercise.
part of the reason i've put off running is scars from when i was in school and people would make fun of how gangly i looked when i tried. i'm all limbs. so, i'm a bit too self-conscous to run down the street. perhaps i should try it at 3am.
Last year i ran heaps but i rolled my ankle at the end of last year and don't have any confidence in it. The run i do is 7km's which is basically down to the pont and back so there are hills and stuff to.
ADMill.Gangly... that's not a bad thing. I'm guessing you don't have heaps of extra weight to carry. Like with everything you do in life. Do it for yourself. Do it now... and us larger folk will be a bit jealous of you. Running is just something to enjoy :)
Beertickle... 7 km is bloody great! If you are happy to do that after a rolled ankle... good for you. It's people like you running down the hill and back that encourages others. I'm just here to hear about people that get some enjoyment outta running. I'm glad you do.
adam - i used to get teased cause i had no style or fitness when i ran as a kid either - but i am so much better at it now, and it just comes with practice and getting more comfortable with it. i was going so well before i had knee surgery (although after the accident that meant i needed surgery), and i am just finding my legs again, so to speak. but now that i have better form than when i was starting out, it is so much easier.
just do it, heedless of what anyone things. particularly cause half the people you went to school with are probably too fat to even think about running now :)
haha! fair points, all. i think maybe i will start. what shoes should i buy? i probably can't run in cons...
i'm in training for the run to the g. running on a treadmill is so much easier that running outside, I can't seem to run more that about 5km in the open air but i can run for longer in the gym
Versions... Does music help you running.. I can't run for more than 30 min without music
what is the g. ?
>Does music help you running.. I can't run for more than 30 min without music
i don't think i've ever tried running without music, the right playlist is essential.
run to the g
Essential... Yes. Thank god for the iPod.

Running a half in Centennial Park on Sunday with the Sri Chimnoy people. Anyone else doing that?
cheers gabbo, that's definitely food for thought. The dude i ran 16.5 kms with last week is doing the goldy marathon, might wait and see how i pull up after the tough mudder gig. Must say i'm really enjoying the extra distance, i plan on running 25 kms on Sunday and then tapering off during next week.
10km in 54.35. Not as fast as some but I'm pretty fucking excited by that number! This time next week I'll know if I beat 80 minutes in the Run 4 Kids...
dazmurray, Im using Nike+. Its been instrumental in keeping me focused and to constantly push myself. It tells me I've increased my average pace 27% since I started. Lance Armstrong congratulated me yesterday for running my fastest 10km! We're like best mates now. Its a pretty cool app.
And good luck to all you crazy mofos doing the Tough Mudder next weekend. Watch out for the electric probes. Wouldnt want to cop that in the nuts...
20 kms 1hr 45 mins 53 secs. Cheers ned, you're right...a 10,000 volt shock to the nuts would not be pleasant but it's the last obstacle so you should be able to crawl to the finish line.
New PB for the half marathon! 1:38:06
I've been wanting to go sub 100 min at this distance since I started running so I'm pretty damn happy right now :)
The next target on my list is a sub 20 min 5K...
Finished the run for kids in 81 minutes. Was completely shagged going over the line so happy with that time.
And now I'm about to enjoy my first alcoholic drink of 2012...
ok, so im back, somewhat. its been a slog from about november. injury issues, lack of consistent routine, festive season piss ups and holidays. that first little hurdle getting over that 4-5k mark, plodding along, running sporadically, it can be a real pain in the arse. once you get past 2-3 weeks of consistent running (3+ times a week of decent runs) it just becomes so much easier and more enjoyable. peeled of 9kms after work today no problems. not very fast, mind you. might enter the melbourne half to give me something to work toward now. just hope the dodgy old achilles hold up to the miles in the colder weather coming up.
Gonna do the salomon trail running series.
If i do well I might try another marathon, but after hearing that a guy from footy did 160km in 30 hours over summer, I think that is all still a bit lame.
FYI to any lady runners on the board: this is happening May 3.
thanks amplexus! here's hoping they do a melbs one soon too - running in the night is a wonderful thing.
I'm jealous of that race. I love running at night :(
ultra-marathons are dangerous, yo
Just got back from my fastest 5km in 25.12, which is backing up from doing my fastest 10km on Tuesday at 53.00mins. And the weight loss for 2012 is up to 22kgs.
1/2 Marathon in July here I come!
Awesome work nedb! You'll crack 25 mins in no time.
It's funny how much my attitude to distance has changed since I started running. At first, 5K seemed like an incredible distance and I was incredibly pleased with myself the first time I ran it without needing to stop for a walk break. And I thought people doing half marathons were absolutely insane. 18 months later and I'm running 8-10K/day like it's nothing and the absolute minimum I'll run is 5K.
SMH half marathon in a couple of weeks and I intend to knock a good 20 mins off my time from last year. Booya!
22 kilos is awesome, nedb! Good for you!
have the energy and motivation of the average brick at the moment. must get back into it.
Ran the ''Sydney: 10'' 5K out at Olympic Park yesterday. Was hoping to crack 20 mins for the first time but fucked up and took a wrong turn, by the time I figured what I'd done and managed to get myself back on course I'm pretty sure I'd lost 15-20 secs.
Ended up finishing in 20:15. Yargh!
Managed 10k on a treadmill in 55 mins this morning. PERSONAL BEST.
(I did have to hobble to work with blisters though, cos I didn't really think that part through.)
i'm nearly finished my first week of doing the couch to 5K program. it's my second attempt; i made it to week 4 last august and then used a couple of stitches in my leg as an excuse to give up.
looking forward to getting to this point, as described by jimmy hutspah:
CaptainHowdy - with any luck you'll get to the point where you're supposed to take a rest day but you're itching to get out and run anyway.
Consistency is key. :)
