Because I don't want to jack that other fred.
I like North Melbourne and I'm really snobbish about living in the inner suburbs. Failing that I'd love to live in the Dandenongs, say Healesville or similar.
I'm always a bit snobbish when somebody tells me they live out in Ringwood or Sunshine or Reservoir and how excellent it is. I think "How can it be excellent if you have to drive just to get anywhere?"
I'm heading out to a mate's party in Werribee tonight. The host always whinges that nobody comes to her parties, and we all reply "that's because it's out in Werribee, dear!" "It's only 30 minutes away!" she says. But we're having none of it.

FUCK UP.
fuck off, you're wrnog
Yes but if you don't have a car and it's in Werribee it's MUCH longer than 30 minutes and if you DO have a car SOMEONE has to stay sober enough to drive home. How much does that suck?
Lots.
make a list!
oops
elaine: exactly! I think we're going to end up crashing the night. But it's in a really cold, cheapo weatherboard house.. we'll just have to take extra doonas.
I have no idea about Melbourne except I have to say Kingston shire is not too bad. This area gets a bad rap, but you guys at least have some water around you. I don't know what people are whingeing about.
Brrrrr!
party point is where it's at.
one of the attractions of melbourne was its public transport; in perth you can't do jack without a car. i'm happy paying my stupid rent in zone 1, as i reckon i would go postal without 9(quick, easy) access to good places to eat/go to gigs etc.
Why can't one ride from these places to others? I've riden to King Lake for parties, its all good and quite refreshing.
i can't wear a helmet.
OH GET FUCKED IT IS NOT!
Dunno fast. Farthest I'll ride for a party is 5k. Any more than that and I'll be too tired to do the home ride.
winter is coming, fastcanoe.
pfft, wipey. PFFT.
Let's not.
5kms.. fuck dude, your really limiting yourself there.
I've riden to King Lake for parties, its all good and quite refreshing.
You rode your bike to King Lake???? Did you leave 3 days earlier? :P
Thermals are being ironed out nicko..
Live where you want, your choice. But if you don't live near me, then you're wrong. That's the gist really.

i can't even drive hayley and i'm a suburbanite. i live near a train station. it takes about the same amount of time to get to the city by train as it does from north fitzroy etc by tram in peak hour.
Let's not. Let's appreciate the radness of Space Marines instead.
Ahhhh...The Emperor's Finest, keeping the Imperium Of Man safe from Xenos, Heretics, and the Taint of Chaos.
How fucking rad is THAT shit eh?
Pretty damn fucking rad, that's how rad.
At least.
Oh yes.
Suburbs.
Shut up. Some are good, others not so good, who cares? Just becasue you live there doesn't really make you cool or not by default you jerkhammered spanner monkey dick splices.
pretty rad.
That's odd. Why doesn't that pic work on this verdamnt library knobwrenchen computer?
Fucking heretics.
I simply don't have an opinion about them. They are there, they house lots of people some of those people never leave the suburbs, the end!
Geez bigstar, way to generalise about the people who you so angrily assume are generalising about you (in the outer burbs). Nice work dude.
I live in Sunshine North, and actually kinda like it. It's relaxed, down to earth, full of little nearby shopping strips, has a sense of community and decent public transport (I don't have a license). But this is exactly what I'd say about Nth Fitzroy as well, where I spend the other half of my week. The inner north is also where I'd like to live full-time soon enough.
So in short: don't make dumb assumptions about this stuff cos you mainly end up looking like a knob.
Incidentally, while I'm in this thread, I recently decided that St. Albans is pretty fucking cool in that shopping district around the station. Cool cheap shops and my awesome hairdresser is located there. Woo!
here is my argument for and against Australia's suburbs: Sydney is a city, Melbourne is a city, but the rest of Australia is a suburban wasteland. especially - in order of their utter naffness -: Perth, Adelaide (oh, God what a boring shithole), Hobart and don't get me started on either of the territories.
at present Brisbane is coming along and therefore unclassifiable.
some are pretty..melbournes old 'leafy' suburbs are still pretty...always will be, very very expensive now..outer suburbs are ok..Infrastructure in 'new' suburbs needs to be good.
I think suburbs are fine. I'm fairly cosmopolitan, but also I like my space..but suburbs are just places where housing density is greater than commercial density. The growth of a city is exactly what it is. In the old days Coburg/Preston was a suburb. So was Brunswick, a place like Eltham wasn't a suburb it was the country. Heidleberg was the country when the Heidlebergers were painting there. Bonds road in Heidleberg still has that air of country, and HEidleberger nostalgia, if you take a drive...
I have found that there isn't much difference between people that live in Richmond and or Eltham. Sometimes Richmondites that have been in town and had a baby or two and move out have an 'air' of inner city cosmopoliteness about them that doesn't wash well out here in the outer. Like recently, I met a couple who were doing Richmond like Modi and all them dudes..and people on this board who I have met etc..., people that did a lot of socialising that had kids and moved out, there was an eagerness to socialise, to organise, to be the centre of attention that really pissed me off, but also others..but it wasn't their fault, they were adjusting to the slower pace...it is slower out here, more relaxed, more unwind, but thats what it's for...the social nature of inner city living is hard for people sometimes to come down from...others can't wait to get out...It can be all encompassing and distracting that inner city scene, that's why artists often live out/ or people that are in high stress professions.
a_l makes sense. i like the suburbs and the city, but prefer living a little away from the city.
srsly Newtown is filled with shitty goths and hippies who are finding their place after being picked on in highschool it should all be burnt down except for Repressed and Oporto.
Oh yeah Glenquarie smells like baby shit when you drive past it this is becuase of irresponsible teen pregnancies and the diapers being thrown out the fence it's like a cesspool of babyshit the way the council has planned the houses facing inwards. It's like they want the occupants to kill each other.
Incorrect batman4eva. Newtown is full of swine with too much money these days. The myth that Newtown is filled with shitty goths and hippies is so outdated it's untrue.
Living in Newtown is fucking expensive.
I'm sad that I made this thread.
BA: awesome space marine pic.
i like my suburb.
mipearson- I know. How fucking good is it? The problem with Odin is that it's becoming a little too popular.
Lovessweetexile- Ahem. Shouldn't you be frying some chicken right about now?
Sorry BA, i was caught doing maths and throwing knives. once ive done my afternoon push ups, ill get the fryer on. wont happen again. apologies.
BE MY FRIEND!
Sorry, everyone's sorry! BUT ALL THE SORRY IN THE WORLD ISN'T GOING TO FRY FUCKING CHICKEN NOW IS IT?
No, it is not.
A truly good woman can fry chicken WHILE doing maths and throwing knives.
No excuses.
You need more training clearly.
