Woah, look at me go! My second thread of the evening.
Cos I had a bit of a shit day (no real reason, just 'cos) and I can hear a domestic occurring upstairs that sounds like it is heading towards splitsville and because astral sounds like he needs cheering up, what are the songs that make you smile?
I've just started a new playlist. So far:
Blondie - I'm always touched (by your presence, dear)
Belle and Sebastian - For the price of a cup of tea
The Go-Betweens - Bye bye pride
Andrew Bird - Fake palindromes
R.E.M - Stand (yes, goofy, I know, but at least I didn't say Shiny happy people)

&!!!!%$& formatting!! I always forget.

and more to come later. :) thanks russian, this has me feel better. :)
I'm more of a smile-cry kind of kid, but anyway - here's my "don't be (just plain) sad (because it's boring if you don't mix it up with another feeling)" mix for you saddies in the world:

it doesn't have to be a happy smile. i think this song is beautifully written and has intelligent, researched, biting lyrics. Plus, Gaz's voice just makes it.

There are also songs that make me smile because there are sublime or absurd moments in them - but I guess that might be a whole nother thread.
totes agree on 'too young' - rosie. i don't care how played it is, i always put this on as one of my 'getting amped to go out' tracks.
I can't listen to happy songs at the moment though...when you're sad, sometimes happy songs make it worse.
Maxwell's Silver Hammer - Beatles.
A taxi driver told me to get fucked when I said it was possibly the greatest song ever. He was more of a Pink Flowd man.
Roy Walker - Belle & Sebastian. It's just soooo cheesy.

74-75. - The O'Connells.
Set the wheels in motion, and watch them turning round
I want to sail across the ocean, Ive grown weary of this town
Take the pressure down
Cause I can feel it, its rising like a storm
Take hold of the wheels and turn them around
Take the pressure down
In this city full of danger, we lead our separate lives
And I was frightened by a stranger, with desperation in her eyes
Someone turned the pressure on
I called your name and you were gone
And I was trapped like a prisoner in this lonely town
Im gonna let things slide, until the pressure comes down
Oh the winner tells his story, the loser hides in shame
The winner steals the glory, while the loser takes the pain
