it's on ABC2. last night and again now.
who are U2?
sorry I meant You2 or is that you tube?
either way, nah, sorry. haven't heard of 'em
yeah..I like edges amps..I can't believe I am going to say this but the classics sound good.
(insert Homer Simpson voice here:)
"ohh - you mean *U*2..."
I like how they seem not to know what they are doing and Bono keeps improvising which is crap but at least he's doing what he feels at the time instead of just trotting it out..
if they're the band i'm thinking of, yeah - they can be a pretty decent band.
the first few albums were great, nasty spirited stuff. war, october & boy come to mind.
even Joshua Tree was decent. since then it's been a battle to stay relevant, right?
I don't know if they play 'new years day'..I hope so..
yeah..relevant..key word
oh oh..it's the new single...Damn.
shave our heads. get pointy guitars. wear tinted shades all the time...
I don't know why edge thought getting a phazer instead of dual memory man's was the answer.
"seconds" & "like a song" - they coulda left it there & enjoyed stooges-like cult status today
the thing is if they maybe got off rock stars' and back on 'losers' they might make another good record.
ah yes, but once the genie's out of the bottle...
true..
ho hum..
its interesting that both kings of leon and the killers have supported them recently. Think some of the early u2 stuff wore off on them.
I know you guys probably don't give a rats arse, but U2 are FINALLY releasing Popmart on DVD. To this day I have never seen anything remotely close to this tour. It was quite simply staggering.
that's good news for many people. I'm just not one of those people.
The wife and I had free tickets to see U2 3D at Imax. I went along to see a 3D film more than to see U2 who I'm not a fan of. The 3D photography was great but I kept thinking how cool would this be if it was David Bowie 3D (or Gang of Four 3D!) rather than these tired aging rock stars. The most frustrating thing about the 3D was seeing a bloated Bono swaying an inch away from your face and not being able to inflict any physical harm upon him.

....aaaaah
lol
Unforgettable Fire and Joshua Tree are great albums. There, I've said it. I feel so much better.
And Achtung! If they'd finished after that they'd be untouchable.
Remember, Bono as a self-repeating cliche didn't happen until just after Pop.
this band has have never been cool at any point in time.
...well, John Peel made a point of never playing them, and that's a pretty powerful Exhibit A spaceman.
Not true astrousersasmind
They made a Festive Fifty
The Unforgettable Fire was the sound of them rediscovering themselves after Under A Blood Red Sky killed the War material dead
The Joshua Tree always felt cold and clinical (except for One tree Hill)
Rattle And Hum killed them artistically
Achtung Baby rehabilitated them, but there have been few signs of life since
I've never realised it, but this is totally correct!
Saying that The Joshua Tree is cold and clinical is like saying your Mum's a virgin. Nobody's going to believe it.
well, i hear ya - however one time in the mid-80s I woke to MMM playing the song *'seconds' * and right then & there as an ignorant little yr8 student getting dressed for school (St Andrew's Cathedral School) i thought that song was about as cool & indie as life could possibly get!
The latest issue of Q comes with a fancy cover CD of Achtung Baby:
Nine Inch Nails do Zoo Station
Jacque Lu Cont remixes Even Better Than The Real Thing
Damien Rice does One
Patti Smith does Until The End Of The World
Garbage do Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
Depeche Mode do So Cruel
Gavin Friday does The Fly
Snow Patrol do Mysterious Ways
The Fray do Tryin' To Throw Your Arms Around The World
The Killers do Ultra Violet (Light My Way)
Glasvegas do Arcobat
Jack White Does Love is Blindness
I'm curious to hear that....
It's going to be hard to get hold of. The U2 fans have gone mad clambering for a copy: http://www.u2.com/news/title/achtung-baby-covered/
I'm sure those covers will pop up on YouTube sometime soon...
Jack White doing Love Is Blindless sounds like it'd be a treat and I haven't even heard it yet!
You're right Lozenge, they're up on Youtube already :)
Here's Jack doing Love is Blindness: http://youtu.be/bPJZujpMjCc
Oh wow!
Looking forward to hearing NIN do Zoo Station and Depche Mode cover So Cruel.
i think War is a pretty badass record
i remember being profoundly moved by U2's greatest hits at the age of about 14. that was before huge ego and a lack of humour/irony bugged me. someday i'll forgive them.
True, but Festive 50 is listener-based not Peel-based, as he says here - there are numbers of bands whose records I've stoutly resisted playing and I've refused to have in session like U2 and the Police and Dire Straits all of whom applied for sessions at one time or another all of whom were turned down by myself and producer John Walters, quite rightly so I think
