I'm not entirely sure how easy it is to get hold of BBC podcasts in this country but if you can, the Russell Brand podcasts with Matt Morgan and Mr G are really good - like all beeb podcasts the music is removed but there are usually only around five songs per-show anyway.

They aren't, strictly speaking, podcasts but if you can download a show called Genius (featuring Dave Gorman and a different celebrity guest in each show) it is well worth a listen - they are available on audiobook so I'd gather they're on the usual torrent websites!

I'd like to hear some podcasts by Australian comedians?

anyone know of some good, regular podcasts related to experimental music? please advise

shaun  said about 3 years ago:

I'm getting really into podcasts - good for long walks.

I subscribe to these:
PMAcast - Pretty Much Amazing (music only)
RRR Radiotherapy (talking)
The Pseudo Scientists (talking)

to and fro play dance/electro/pop/exp/indie weirdness & fun. they have some quality special guests who get to program a bunch of the show.

on the non-musical front i'm heavily into this american life, npr's fresh air, the slate political gabfest & every now and then you look nice today. also occasionally listen to WNYC soundcheck, but the host is awful, so i usually leave that one alone.

anok  said about 2 years ago:

stuff you should know is my current fav. for a taste check out episodes on labotomies & moonshine - funny, bizarre & super informative!

Jay Mohr? that guys rad. Only just discovered him as a comedian, i just knew him as the asshole guy in that Tom Cruise film.

I wouldn't listen to Maron alone but i got a soft for the guy.

Mo  said about 4 months ago:

Zac, check out Mohr's pod where he talks about auditioning for Jerry Maguire, the dude is a good story teller

tinyman  said about 4 months ago:

It stops downloading shit if you don't listen to it for a while.

For real? Guess that fits. Damn iTunes! Don't outsmart me!

anok  said about 4 months ago:

yeah, it's annoying! makes me happy i switched to pocket cast.

Arthurly  said about 4 months ago:

anyone else fast forward WTF till the guests come on? I love the guests he gets but i wouldn't listen to WTF if it was based around Maron entirely

yeah, at first I was all into Marc and his bitter, jealous rants, but after a while it was all too much. I now skip to the guests, which is a shame because occasionaly his opening monologues contained such insight and honesty. I just don't have the time or patience to take the risk!

slothman  said about 4 months ago:

i'm hooked on doug loves movies

Kit  said about 4 months ago:

I used to ffwd to the guest if I wasn't in the mood, at some point I became so in the tank for Maron that I listen to the rant and bail on the guest if they're boring, or gross, or gross and boring like Dice Clay

Big WTF fan, any other good comedy related podcasts out there?

Comedy Death-Ray/Bang Bang, Doug Loves Movies, Who Charted?, Best Show On WFMU/Best Show Gems (the latter is highlights of comedy bits only), Judge John Hodgman, Thrilling Adventure Hour, Superego, The Pod F. Tompkast, Greg Proops' The Smartest Man In The World, The Bugle, etc etc

Mo  said about 4 months ago:

that Dice Clay interview was fascinating but i think Maron rants are pretty lame, i'm middle aged and white, type rants - guess we sit on opposing sides of the fence kit

i thought the Russell Peters one was interesting, Maron wanted to hate him so bad, but Peters charmed the pants off him, sometimes Maron's agenda is a bit too transparent

Kit  said about 4 months ago:

that's what's so great about his openness in talking about himself, you can tell when he's taking his insecurities out on the guests, identify some of the behaviour that made eps 20-120 or so all open with him apologising for whatever he'd done that made the guest hate him in the past*, etc. and of course it's that openness that makes him a great interviewer; that people respond to it and meet him on the same level.

*it's funny how often they'd reply ''I didn't hate you,'' and he'd be ''oh I guess I just resented you and projected that.'' The recent Michael Ian Black ep, and the early 2011(?) Nick Thune ones are interesting in that MIB refuses to accept his apologies, so Maron keeps needling him, and MIB says ''You see why I wouldn't accept it?''; and the Thune one where Maron can't get over his disdain of musically-backed comedy so that he KEEPS ON sniping at Thune for his guitar and his Christianity and his good-lookingness, so much that you can tell Maron has no idea he's even doing it.

Ten minutes into Dice he was already repeating the same stories, which were about how awesome and fuckable he was when he was young - I wasn't sticking around for another hour's worth of them.

Kit  said about 4 months ago:

Paul Scheer ep was also great like that, in that halfway in, after hearing how Scheer has been positive and active about building a career, Maron audibly slumps, defeated, and says ''Well, I guess we might as well wrap up, you don't have any darkness...'' -- and Scheer is like “are you kidding?” and goes into half an hour of stuff about his dad and stepdad and being taught to fight when he was a kid and rage-beating another kid into the infirmary at school

Zac  said about 4 months ago:

I love the Dice Clay interview, it's perfect. I guess you gotta be a Dice man though.

Mo  said about 4 months ago:

the last 15 minutes of the Dice interview was worth sitting through the bragging, honestly

You forgot to add How Did This Get Made.

Personally I love Maron's rants because he's constantly evolving. He's very aware of (most of) his flaws & is very honest about them. He's also very articulate & makes mundane things entertaining. One of my favourite of his rants was 10 minutes flicking through a homeware catalogue talking about what he'd like to buy & what he'd do with it in his home.

Mo  said about 4 months ago:

oh Kelly Carlin (george's daughter) has a cool pod called ''waking up from the american dream''

yeh, i dig what you're saying gnome, i get bored by his rants (i guess i have never liked his stand up either) about nothing, but love the guests and comedians talking ''shop''

sharptooth  said about 4 months ago:

I've got a comedy crush on Harris Wittels from his various CBB and other random Earwolf show appearances (same goes for Paul F. Tompkins and Adam Scott)

hey gnome, took your advice, started listening to Maron's rants/stuff at the beginning, you're so right, he has changed a lot eh! compared to when i stopped listening to now, like you can hear him evolving and whatnot, very cool, very happy to be off the mark here, getting new enjoyment out of old pods
