Hey Mess and Noisers,
Me and a couple of other Sydney music photographers are putting on a photography show at China Heights in Surry Hills from August 11-13th.
None of us have ever done something like this before (ie, put our photos in a gallery) so it's all rather daunting but exciting at the same time. We'd love for you to come along and have a look and make us feel good about ourselves.
We'll probably be selling prints but haven't worked out that side of things yet.
Details:
- What: 3 Songs, No Flash - a rock photography exhibition,
- When: Opening night on August 11th, then from 12-13th (12-5pm)
- Where - China Heights, Surry Hills
And here's a press release spiel...
3 Songs. No Flash.
In the world of live rock photography, that’s all the time you’ve got to shoot something special…
Matt Booy, Daniel Boud and Nic Bezzina represent the new breed of rock photographers - passionate and committed to capturing the spirit and the energy of live rock and roll.
3 Songs. No Flash showcases their best work, capturing iconic Australian artists alongside internationals like Iggy Pop, Radiohead, Green Day and Slipknot - at China Heights Gallery on August 11-13.
Matt Booy
As the resident live music photographer at triple j, Matt has photographed too many big tours and festivals to mention. Matt’s photos feature on the triple j website, in Australian Rolling Stone, jmag, Hot Press and more.
Daniel Boud
As well as publishing his work on award winning photoblog Boudist, Daniel’s work has been published in SPIN, Australian Rolling Stone, NME, Oyster, Hot Press, Girlfriend and all the Sydney street press. Plus the next issue of Mess and Noise!
Nic Bezzina
Shooting on film and focusing on the harder rock shows, Nic Bezzina is the resident photographer at The Annandale Hotel.
Nick’s work is hung throughout the venue, and he’s a regular contributor to Blunt magazine.

Laugh all you like Wonky :) I hadn't even thought of that.
Must catch up when you're in town.
that's brilliant!
i'll be seeing you at the opening. and i thought arranging a show at a cafe in manly was exciting...
Any time you put your work out in public for others to admire and/or deride is exciting.
awesome, great idea!
see youse there kids!
I'd buy buy a photo if you were selling them.
I need something to spruce up the old homestead.
Take your pick from what you see on my site - there's over 7000 shots in there.
Once i get educated about printing it shouldn't be too hard to do a one off for your homestead.
NIce work on getting the exhibition together dan, I'll try and drag myself up from Canberra!
Awe sweet... so cool Dan. Just have fun! xxx
adds another reason to come home to the list

Thanks folks. I'm off to Splendour this weekend, so hopefully i'll get some more material there...
Don't know if any of them will end up in the show, but i've starting putting some Splendour photos up on Flickr.
Nice work Dan. There's some nice shots in the latest issue of m+n mag too.
NOT ENOUGH PHOTOS OF YOUR HANDSOME MUG, BOUD.
Wish I could go and see the exhibition but, you know, thousands of kilometres away and all that jazz.

No excuses!!
Matt from Triple J, who will also be in the show has just posted his great Splendour photos. There's also shots from most of the sideshows on the Triple J site.

Good luck with tonight! Wish I could make it!
Matt Booy is going to chat on Triple J with Robbie Buck between 3-4 this afternoon. Tune in for his pearls of wisdom.
You going to be bringing this exhibition down to M-town Daniel?
No plans to take it interstate. We're not that rich or popular enough yet.
Ok, i'm off to buy the drinks now. See you at the show!
Awww but i need some prints for my new house.
i'll just bag dan out on the radio. :P
Thanks everyone for coming along! It was huge.
I don't think i met any of you though. If i did send me a message so i know who you are.
Still going to be open this afternoon Dan?
Sure is, i'll be there in about an hour - till 5pm this arvo. Be great to see you there.
i was there on friday night. i was only just able to get round to look at the photos it was so full of scenster trash.
the photos were great though.
I thought it was a good mix of people - there was the odd scenester, but that's cool, there were heaps of really lovely people who i was so happy to have there.
Walrus - i hear your sister is in one of my photos - is that right?
yeah. the crowd one from the living end show.
i told her about it when it was on the site for the exhibition. she doesn't like how she looks in it so i won't tell her she's in the exhibit. haha.
typical teenage girl.
haha i meant to ask if that was her.
Anyone else come along? It was pretty crammed on opening night.
I loved it. We actually spent more time looking at the small wall of pics. So many good photos that weren't larger on the wall.
Yeah - it was tough trying to work out which ones to blow up big. At the last minute Matt and i decided to print out 50 different small ones each.
great idea
Wish I was there sniffle
