cafe romantica
pretty sure singh's is open on monday..
Where is Singh's?
My dining companion is vegetarian, too.
singhs
Pagey, I looked out for Cafe Romantica. Do you mean Cafe L'Amour? That's the only one that was open at half-five this morning..
go to singhs take away restaurant on nicholson st. its a hole in the wall kinda place with fantastic food.
do not go to singhs restaurant on lygon st, brunswick.
lygon st, just north of brunswick rd. i recommend the biryani and the pumpkin madras.
it's just down from cafe l'amour, lion.
OK, I'm getting two conflicting opinions. What do I do? Help!
i had a bad experience at singhs on lygon a while back and wont go back......thats all.
i prefer the food at singh's lygon to nicholson
what's wrong with lygon pops?
xpost
pagey, i went there once with horse and lesavvy and we were served raw chicken ! they said they would microwave it better for us but it came back pink.
they were suprised when we refused to pay for it.
We're going to have all veggies, so that won't be an issue...
But that is terrible. Awful service, too!
ick. i eat there fairly regularly and have never had a problem, but have never ordered meat.
i have always found the food there to be great.
My favourite is Thaila Thai on Lygon... but they used to be closed on Mondays, not sure if thats still the case..
The East Brunswick does $10 parma on Tuesday
Fish Bones on Lygon does a pretty good version of Fish & Chips (+ Calamari) for $10
plus they are totally rude and seem to hate young people!
on nicholson st, they are the awesomest and are always lovely and make me special meals!!!
there's an awesome japanese place on the corner of barkly and lygon. they have a whole vegie menu but you have to ask for it. it's a fave with the parents. i also enjoy the eggplant dish and the sizzling samosas at the yogi di daba which is a few down from the japanese place. they're always open on mondays so i always end up there.
the thai place on lygon near glen lyon is good, but pricey.
carmellos on the corner of nicholson and brunswick road is aussie woodfired pizza and DELICIOUS! i think they're open tonight. otherwise, i got heaps of nasi goreng leftovers...
there is an awesome lebanese restaurant on lygon st called Rumi....you might have to book though. also a bit pricey, but fucking awesome.
warning: i got meat in my vegie dish there... and i got meat samosas by mistake once. i hate that place - so rude. sorry.

Don't you hate that when an awesome eatery opens up and its cheap, authentic and kick ass and then nobody goes there and it has to close down. This has happened to me so many times in Frankganistan. There was an awesome Korean...bam six months later closed - local ferals want fucken fish and chips and there was this other Lebanese place that had fresh falafel, burek, and roasted their own coffee and it was closed in a year - for fucks sake.
So I hope this little place kicks on. Corner of Nicholson and Vic?
been craving a healthier take-away option in bruns/ebruns for a while. sounds decent jeebee.
yeps.
Man, I screwed it up again! Um, third time lucky?
LOL, I feel like I want to help them really hard to survive, in a Babu and Seinfeld-like way!
Can someone please provide reviews of everything around Victoria & Lygon? Is La Bussola any good? I know Mai Thai is goodand Il Primosle does the yummiest eggs benedict and if you order a sandwich, they make it HUGE!
Basically if you're around the corner of Vic and Lygon you really just need to go to Mankoushe. Nothing beats it.
Thai on Street is fairly new and pretty good, much better than Thaila Thai based on recent experiences, they have vege options but I've not tried them. On Lygon between Victoria and Brunswick rd.
I'm gonna try Mankoushe this arvo I think. How do you pronounce that, btw?
I don't really get the hype surrounding Thaila Thai. Maybe I'm put off by the first time I went there - it was a balmy, busy summer evening, and they had all their dirty dishes stacked up outside on the footpath. Gross. Or the second time I went there and ordered a Pad Khing, which I thought was a pretty standard Thai (or Australian-Thai) dish, they had never heard of it and I got asked what it was, and even when I told them and they seemed to understand I got served the blandest pad khing of my life, bearing in mind that this was after waiting an hour for it take-away.
Those are the only two times I've eaten at Thaila Thai. From my experience, Thaila Thai is abysmal, and on a street with so many other good restaurants (including at least 5 thai places) there is absolutely no reason to eat there.
you won't be trying mankoushe this arvo happy cow, they're open thu-sun, 9-9 only.
and i second the vote for thai on street over the shit they serve at thaila thai. and their vegie options are decent. service can be sketchy, but they're sweet.
Ah, I didn't realise Mankoushe's hours had changed. Looking forward to trying Thai on Street.
Yeah, Thaila Thai is overrated by far, and is very very average and a bit overpriced.
Fair enough. Hope they keeping up the good work and good music.
I say Man-Kush.
Thanks for the tip off, saved me a tram ride and extreme dissapointment!

I want falafel now. Can someone bring me some?
You can buy it from Coles or Safeway. ;-)
