vision swim

New album from Growing is out this week with CD available via Troubleman.

I love these guys. Drones, drones, drones....

The live recordings that have appeared in a series of sold out cassettes over the last 18 months or so are now available via itunes for those interested. The live CD on archive has also been released on vinyl by a UK label to but just too expensive for me I'm afraid.

Growing

Colour Wheel and The Sound... were both pretty good. I like their gentler stuff better.

runoutgroove  said about 5 years ago:

here is a link to the archive re-release

live

72 Min Live 2xLP of complete drone bliss, contains two complete live shows. These recordings were released on cd through Archive Recordings and are long sold out. “While Growing continually return to that near-ambient tranquility, the record is a series of meandering excursions into MASSIVE slow motion, melted-riff soundscapes, notes and chords unfurl impossibly slowly, as if someone had doubled the gravity and the sound waves were actually visible, drizzling lazily to the floor like molasses or honey, rich golden globs of thick distorted throb. Like Earth and Skullflower meshed into one buzzing blurry soundfield, all muted melody and crunchy riffage, a pulsing swirl of feedback and guitarral grrrr! The sound is basically phenomenal…” (Aquarius)

Mmmmm, the blurb intrigues me. And I trust yr taste, Shaun and Runoutgroove. And I love drones.

Adds to 'Must investigate' list

sceaux  said about 5 years ago:

vision swim is super intricate - i'm not the biggest obsessor of drone but growing really are exceptional. this album is great!!

runoutgroove  said about 5 years ago:

bump for growing.

blake3030  said about 5 years ago:

This album is very cool. I didn't think i'd like it. But I do.

fastcanoe  said about 5 years ago:

hmmmm.. I might give it a listen through.. their recorded efforts never quite grabbed me.. though live they were impressive.

runoutgroove  said about 5 years ago:

you'd like that live release 'canoe.

fastcanoe  said about 5 years ago:

Yah, I don't like itunes though and that vinyl is over the top.

runoutgroove  said about 5 years ago:

i know. i've thought about not eating for a week to get a hold of the vinyl though. i'm a sucker.

fastcanoe  said about 5 years ago:

haha, I could make a response to that with joking reference to your field of study.. but I won't

I'm still recovering from a whack load of Borbetomagus vinyl purchasing.

for vinyl junkies. troubleman

GROWING "Vision Swim" LP/CD.

Color vinyl rundowns for the vinyl:
100 white vinyl
200 clear vinyl
700 black 180g vinyl

No limit per customer on this one, go nuts. We need the room in our warehouse. This record is packaged with die cut covers. There are TWENTY ONE invividual die cuts on the front cover. The pressing plant said that is the most die cuts they have ever manufactured for a record sleeve. The inner sleeve is full color and slides under the LP jacket, and looks different every angle you stick it in. Pretty intense, and due to the high production costs, it is a little more expensive than your average record, but well worth it. We are most proud of this record. The tour/mailorder sold out VERY fast. Thanks for ordering. You won't be disappointed by this one either!

This is kind of like listening to an album of whale noises

in an awesome kind of way

i got one of those LPs mentioned above. No special white vinyl though. Just plain old black.

runoutgroove  said about 4 years ago:

I got one of the white ones. arrived this week. nice packaging but they went a little cheap on the inner sleeve, would have been nice to be a little thicker.

*Tardo-El-Eggo*  said about 4 years ago:

Growing are up there, they are as good live as they are on recording too.... I would love to see them again.
Im actully listening to 010101 Lullaby, by Raymond Scott (70's Aus-post punk) and it sounds heaps like a Growing song, only less doomy,

hwct  said about 4 years ago:

yeah, I'd love to see this stuff live for sure.

*Tardo-El-Eggo*  said about 4 years ago:

You didn't get to the What is Music Festival to see them and Sunn O))) HWCT?

liquidlovejesus  said about 4 years ago:

shit, i've slept on this. will have to get it this weekend, i think.

hwct  said about 4 years ago:

yeah I saw Sunn O))) but Growing didn't play, it was with Pan Sonic @ the Hi Fi.

liquidlovejesus  said about 4 years ago:

growing were better than sunn O)))

percolator  said about 2 years ago:

good stuff runoutgroove. i was going to bump this thread to see if anyone knew if vice records are distributed locally? anyone? hopefully my local store gets it in. really looking forward to hearing it.

runoutgroove  said about 2 years ago:

I don't know about local stuff and have no idea about Vice-related stuff at all. I'm guessing it will get a local release, or at least it should.

goldbuttons  said about 2 years ago:

seeing these guys next week. Looking forward to it.

runoutgroove  said about 2 years ago:

can you report back buttons. keen to hear how they go as a three piece these days.

trafficsounds  said about 2 years ago:

hey the new album's kinda different huh? starts off way cute, and seems to be much more lighthearted. i was enjoying it today though..

runoutgroove  said about 2 years ago:

I still haven't got around to buying it yet but from what I've heard I like. A dud review on PF last week I notice.

astralwerkor  said about 2 years ago:

That means it's bound to excellent.

percolator  said about 2 years ago:

i havent been able to find it anywhere in melbourne so just ordered it. album is streaming here

I really enjoyed it, they didn't play for long though and seemed pissed off that so few people turned up to see them though. Also, I never knew them as a 2-piece so can't offer much in the way of comparisons there. Took some snaps.

runoutgroove  said about 2 years ago:

nice shots buttons.

trafficsounds  said about 2 years ago:

fantastic photos goldie. i'm jealous.

goldbuttons  said about 2 years ago:

thank you both, that's very kind (and encouraging).

anok  said about 2 years ago:

awesome goldy. great to see their set-up. so pissed that we missed them by a day in nyc last year. i don't listen to growing that much, but i'm always curious to hear their newness. which seems like another step in their gradual evolution from drone/noise/weird into dance/noise/weird (which i can kinda relate to, i guess). some of it works really well, but one of the tracks - 'massive dropout' - sounds like they're soundtracking a zany advert for copying paper or something. kinda awful, but funny, i guess.

this is the first record with the new girl (and her 404), right?

astralwerkor  said about 2 years ago:

This is thirded.

untold/animals  said about 2 years ago:

Yep - thanks for linking to that! Top stuff!

CaptainFez  said about 1 year ago:

I'm not hugely sold on Pumps. My copy arrived the other day (after MUCH delay) and it just seems a bit... I dunno, a bit meh. Not as lovely as earlier releases, but I suppose that happens.

runoutgroove  said about 1 year ago:

still haven't got it yet. keen to hear it though. too ''beatsie'' Fez?

anok  said about 1 year ago:

it sounds like vice magazine spewed all over their previous sound.

runoutgroove  said about 1 year ago:

As time goes on, it is really the two Kranky records and the live album that make it back into rotation pretty frequently.
