People with no interest in music

Tramdriver  said about 5 years ago  or at  1:39PM on Thursday, April 19 2007 in chat

What do you think of people who simply have no interest in music? I mean I heard of someone in her mid-20s or so who has 5 CDs, all movie soundtracks. I suppose there are people with less interest in music out there. I suppose it is a continuum with such people on 1 end and us (generally) on the other end. Thoughts?

They're excellent!

im here, and i have no interest in music.

Tramdriver  said about 5 years ago:

I suppose people on footy forums (for example) are mystified by those with no interest in footy.

what about the people with shit interest in music? they're worse. we should round them up and put them into camps and deprive them of their liberty

cuba will be free of freedom fighters soon. we'll use guantameno bay

i'm relying on you to organise it, tramdriver

My sister used to go out with a bloke like this.

He had two CDs: One of those Best Beer Drinking songs and a Sonics album.

He would happily listen to whatever music was being played.

Everyone knows you're talking about september.

littlearch  said about 5 years ago:

they're two pretty fine albums, LP

This thread sums up mess&noise.

my mum is like this actually. she owns 1 buddy holly records, some opera, some andrew lloyd webber and some emmylou harris (that i gave her)

that's it

talk radio rates better than music radio. most people would rather listen to some old man on the radio than listen to music.

devo  said about 5 years ago:

In a weird way I kind of envy him LP.

LockingPlier  said about 5 years ago:

He was a simple man...good bloke.

nicko_mcbrain  said about 5 years ago:

tram, the main problem with your analogy is that anthropologists estimate that basic ball games have been around for about three thousand years, music quite possibly much longer than that, possibly from as soon as a primate began to hit something (most likely another primate) repeatedly...

clearly one is a much more necessary expressive tool humans use to explain themselves to themselves.

I've met a couple of people who have zero interest. My former supervisor only liked one song - the St Kilda Footy Club theme.

My former boss liked 2 songs and 2 artists - The Cure's Close To Me, Axle F, and he liked Paul Simon and Weird Al Yankovic. That was IT. So very strange, I don't understand it.

Tramdriver  said about 5 years ago:

littlearch - Nah, they are something different again.

LP - The Sonics album seems rather obscure for someone with no interest in music (Surely must have been given it).

littlearch  said about 5 years ago:

i still say we cull

the power of 666  said about 5 years ago:

I was gonna say, own one album, the sonics is pretty solid.

history  said about 5 years ago:

I find that people with less interest in music are often the ones with the most open-minded tastes, so perhaps they're actually getting more out of it, if everything sounds good.

I don't actually agree with this, but its an argument.

aquatic  said about 5 years ago:

I used to work with Paul Mac's older sister.. she strangely had next to no interest in music. She would complain all the time about what was played in the store. All she wanted was silence

LockingPlier  said about 5 years ago:

Nah, he heard the Sonics because I used to listen to them a lot when we lived together and he really liked them so he went out and bought it.

Ironically he was given the beer drinking one for his 21st.

I have a friend at work who literally has two cassettes (no cds) in her car and they are all she listens to. And they came with the car - they are the best of Cats Stevens and Meatloaf. I made her two new tapes recently, she is enjoying them.

You are corrupting her natural goodness!

Polar Bear  said about 3 years ago:

music is just rubbish these days.

Polar Bear  said about 3 years ago:

people with no interest in music are more mature and need no guidence and/or fake social constructs etc. In the old days music was a part of social discussion but today it is just background for socialising and finding a partner. No-body listens to anyone these days and if someone wants to find out a thought then best listen to older musicians from the baby boomer era that put their thoughts and feelings on the table for all so that they could try and build a better society. these days no-body cares about any of that. all people want is to spend money.

People with no interest in music are missing a chromosone or sumthin'... possibly a soul.

Its pretty funny how people who can't understand people who don't give a shit about music have the worst taste ever! Oh, and I know people who don't give a shit at music, I see them at shows every week.

What sort of people are these? Barfly's? Groupies? Scenesters?

Curious.

Tramdriver  said about 3 years ago:

''I don't own any records at all, and it's only recently dawned on me that there's something very odd about that. It seems to rile some people. They seem to hate the fact that I'm not remotely interested in music and they want to kill me.''

They're the ones talking when your favourite band is on stage.

The thing I miss about highschool alot was having my music as a non-social thing and being stupid with my friends that was also pre myspace days so I wouldn't get fucking messaged by strangers becuase of my music section.

Chump  said about 3 years ago:

It's like the shirtless yob population at festivals. I asked a guy at one festival who he was here to see and he shrugged ''Dunno Mate! Don't even know who's playin?! Just here for a good time!...ROOOOOOAR!''

He really did add the roar

Tramdriver  said about 3 years ago:

He really did add the roar

That gave me a small 'l' lol.

crapbandname  said about 3 years ago:

I also Lol'd a little but I'm still laughing everytime I see tramdrivers post.

Tramdriver  said about 3 years ago:

I was going to start a fred about you, but now it would seem sycophantic. ho-hum.
