The The The Thread
oh sorry i thought the moderators said we had to stop us the and thread
Uncertain Smile - live with Johnny Marr on guitar - from the The The Vs The World tour
just got one of these guys songs in my head.. huge thread! i danced in someone else's vomit when they played at festival hall.. remember feeling so happy that i'd found a gap in the crowd. good times
i've listen to this band every single week of my life since 1988.
i also saw them when they were out here with johnny marr on guitar.
all my teenage wet dreams writ large en masse.
Uncertain Smile is the greatest song ever.
Beaten Generation. Also a quite good song. Saw 'em at the Hordern 1989. In fact, I found my REM ticket for the show on Feb 17 1989 at the same venue. And a Billy Bragg one for the Town Hall in 1989. Oh, the late 1980s. How good were they?

This is the day
When things fall into the place!
Johnny Marr on guitar as well. But from memory the (Adelaide) gig went for about 45 minutes, which was very disappointing.
Saw the Melbourne gig at Festival Hall - went for about 90 minutes. Pretty good.
Wanted to say that the album verison of ''Uncertain Smile'', with a young(er) Jools Holland playing the piano solo, is much better than the 45 version, whatever Matt Johnson thinks.
Matt Johnson answers various questions - 2010
So the Manics' last single before (reportedly) going on indefinite haitus will be a cover of This Is The Day it seems
This is all too weird. I was listening to Soul Mining on this morning's jog!
i've listened to soul mining every week of my life since 1983.
last week i decided to revist infected and that other album he did with johnny marr that they toured on when i saw the the at fessy hall in sydders with a FULL BAND and i was right up the front and johnny marr was right in front of me and i was thinking HOLY FUCK THAT'S JOHNNY MARR. yeah that album. the one with with beaten generation on it.
i revisted those albums. not a lot stands up.
let it be known though that matt johnson is a god mcgodderson.
LOOK MY DATES AND FACTS ARE GETTING WILDER THROUGH TIME !
Actually I still love about half of Mind Bomb (''The Beat(en) Generation'' was never a highlight), and pretty much all of Infected. But yeah Soul Mining is genius. I also love Burning Blue Soul.
In fact, in opposite direction to Loadie, I recentlyish listened to Dusk again, having always assumed it was a bit boring, and realised it's great too! ''Love Is Stronger Than Death'' is amazing, gut-punching.

where do you stand on august and september raven?
that was the core reason i revisted mind bomb. it meant something to me once...
weirdly, i then found out elbow have covered it
Elbow covered it! Interesting...
It's not necessarily one of my highlights. I guess the first three tracks were my highlights off that album, but I do like the more ballady ones like that, Kingdom of Rain, Gravitate To Me, perhaps with some reservations now...
I still have a soft spot for Infected too. I had it on VHS back in the day.
Dusk was a blinder
Mind Bomb wasn't
listening to this band right now. highly worthy of a bump and more discussion.
Got that right. Like Throbbing Gristle for the pop crowd. Catchy as fuck, but not afraid to get experimental
