Of casue peeps is gona like the Breaders, but what about the Cathloics + Solo stuff? I like one of the cathlocis albums, The one with the Lucky Cat on the cover. Not great but a few good tunes on it.
Pixies (and Frank Blacks first few solo albums) are the reason I started listening to music. As in actually listening to music, and seeking out stuff I liked, as opposed to listening to dregs on the radio.
I actually like a lot of the Catholics stuff, its uneven, but some of their songs (St. Francis Dam Disaster comes to mind) are incredible. And I love the Breeders, I'm still pissed off I was broke when they played the Title TK tour. goddammit. Had some guy at work tell me how awesome it was too...
Sure they just stand their and play, they don't rock out, never really did. Watch the first DVD from 1988. THey play exactually the same as they do now. They play fine live, the only thing I've noticed is Kim fucks up the timing on the vocals for a song but the drummer changes his timing to fit hers and it's fine. They play very well live.
I just hope I don't have to sit through the panics again.
God that was painfully boring. I just sat there willing them to die.
I'd go if they played anywhere but festering hole, now i'll have to think about it.
Such an awesome, yet somewhat tortured, band. I still don't know what is preventing them from writing new songs/albums. At least they are still together and doing their thing, so there is hope...
We're writing to let you know that we've just released an all new PixiesMusic.com.
It feels like the right time for the band to have a proper home, share some music, and provide a place for fans and the band to communicate. We'll be releasing live shows once a week starting immediately, and have posted a free show (Live at Coachella, 2004) just for you through the end of the week.
Yay! There's three shows to download. And Black Francis and Joey Santiago are putting together some demo's atm...hopefully this means a Pixies album soon!!
woo, my blue vinyl copy of tromp le monde arrived today, completes my set.. i dont know much about it, but im reasonably sure i got it for a steal.. shame it is the weakest of all their albums, but nice to have.
They are still touring Doolittle until the end of the year. It'll be something like 24 months in all (if they finish it up and don't add any more dates). This has to be a record of some sort for touring a 20 year old album. No news of a new album, I reckon they are getting every last cent out of the reunion tour before closing the door shut for good.

GIGANTIC
a big big love.
the Deal twins played Gigantic when they were in melbourne a couple of years ago. It was immense.
Gigantic, even?
Overrated??
No way!
They're my fav band in the world. Have been for about 5 years. Not one bad album, a few lesser songs but on the whole the best band ever.
The olny thing I've come across that was a bit disapointing was the Sold out 2004 DVD. It's a tad boring.
Anyone seeing the flim at ACMI ?
Fav songs, Mr Grives, #13 Baby, Letter to Memphis, U-Mass, Dig for fire
This band is the reason I play music.
what a gas to was to see him
walk her every day into a shady place
with lips she said she said
hey paul hey paul hey paul, let's have a ball.
Ohh Ohh.... I forgot Gouge Away.
Anyone a fan of the spin offs?

I love the YouTube video of the girls dancing to 'Hey!'.
I used to do that all the time. Perhaps not in my underwear, though. Or with a friend.
frank black is one fat fuck
sorry i should give that context
watched their dvd of the reform live thing
the man is huuuuuge
terrible live - but some really good songs
question - having never really been a fan of the pixies - can someone tell me their influences - bands theyve namechecked etc - just interested

Whats fats got to do with a good sound?
They're all fat now days.
just mentioning he's a man mountain
and actually - maybe his massive gut impeded his guitar playing cause they were pretty shiteful
good songs - but just bad live
Thats such bull shit!

How good is Joey on that DVD! He's my fav Pixie.

Husker Du, Peter Paul and Mary
i dont think its bullshit at all
did they play their fast songs too slow back then too?
What's the more recent dvd like? I think its from 2004
well godzilla - my missus is a MASSIVE pixies fan and thought it was pretty average
I won't bother - I'm only a borderline fan - my only pixies album is a cassette of dolittle that I got for 20cents
i thought there was an obscure reference to Chaucer on Trompe le Monde but I can't find it now.

Cause the palace burnt down?
I'm seriously thinking about going back to Perth for a weekend and seeing them at the Belvoir.
I just hope I don't have to sit through the panics again.
Festering Hall!!?? Fuck that. I'm not breaking my Festering Hall boycott, not even for the Pixies.
why'd it have to be festering hall!!!!!!!!
butt fuck it, i'm in
sucks that it is at the hordern. i missed them last time so looking forward to this.
Festering Hole. I fucking hate that place.
Doolittle is my least favourite album of theirs. But the Pixies are one of my most favourite groups. I'm gunna have to think about this.
I´m in, even if they are just rehashing their 2007 setlist..
I hope they do the same for Bossanova next- they didn´t play any songs off that album last time and its my favourite.
I just hope I don't have to sit through the panics again.
