Sun / Oren Ambarchi

Anybody into Sun?... I like Oren Ambarchi and am curious about this, I didn't know about this band.

Some of the songs I've found online sound cool.

i thought i heard a song by them years ago which i really dug but could never find the record. where did you find the songs online?

shaun  said about 5 years ago:

i saw Sun play at the Hopetoun in sydney back in 2002. I had never heard them before (i was a fan of Oren's old noise band Phlegm) but thought they were great.

filterfeed  said about 5 years ago:

thanks shaun!

oren is truly brilliant.

cant wait to see him playing with sunn \m/

i've been looking for info on Oren Ambarchi. filterfeed wasn't much help. my local record store geek was recommending him. i only have one track from a wire mag cd.

shaun  said about 5 years ago:

Definitely get Suspension

dunno where you are kaput, but Red Eye in Sydney has a copy. If you're in Melbourne you might find it easier.

Grapes of the Estate is worthwhile as well

kaput  said about 5 years ago:

i'm in the uk shaun but my wee record store guy should be able to get something in. if not, i'll be in sydney in 4 weeks. cheers.

The guitarist of The Red Hot Chili Peppers is a huge fan of Oren Ambarchi. Listed his Grapes Of The Estate album as a favourite album of his.

grapes of the estate is siiiick. also suspension.

shaun  said about 5 years ago:

anybody heard this?

Here's a random blurb i found:

> formerly orthodox hasidic students of talmud and tanya, these two members of the australian punk unit phlegm have brought together influences from boredoms and the japanese noise scene, traditional jewish nigunim and yiddish theatre, marc ribot, ornette coleman and countless others to create a new world of twisted dreams and startling sonorities. a must for all lovers of weirdness

anok  said about 5 years ago:

totally. also, insulation.

Oren works at Metropolis Music (Curtin House) in Melbourne. Go and say hi to him. He's a very personable chap.

shaun  said about 5 years ago:

btw i should have mentioned that album i posted about above is a Oren Ambarchi / Robbie Avenaim release.

I haven't heard it so comments would be nice.

filterfeed  said about 5 years ago:

damn you and your obscure coolsieness, kaput. no help! pah.

shunt  said about 5 years ago:

the sun record is lovely. very speciall

i don't know much else

anok  said about 5 years ago:

socks owns the ambarchi/avenaim release. leant it to me once, but that was a long time ago. he's a huge fan of oren's and should be able to provide much insight into his recordings.

sceaux  said about 5 years ago:

the sun record that came out on preservation in maybe 2003 is phenomenal. so are the remixes.

incidentally the main guy behind sun - chris townend - produces some stuff in sydney. he did all the production on the most recent rand and holland record, and plays on it a bit too.

Oren's stuff is pretty much flawless.

How was the sound/volume? I ask because the last time i saw the Dead C it was WAY too quiet.

Bummed I missed Oren.

kitty magic  said about 7 months ago:

Cheers :]

Had no idea there was new Windy & Carl as well... excited.

jbiz  said about 3 months ago:

I was listening to some of the new Windy & Carl this morning via Boomkat. I think Kranky will be distributing the album too. So, if you're after vinyl you save the $$$

anok  said about 3 months ago:

this oren thing is doing quite nicely so far. thanks for the heads-up blake.

Hellzapoppin  said about 3 months ago:

Quite enjoying this Oren release. Knots is really engaging in it's movements. Top work.

I'd suspect that would be a guarantee. Only had a distracted listen yesterday, sounded like W&C, sounded like I'm going to embrace it on the road this weekend.

jbiz  said about 3 months ago:

Let me know if you find a way to ''acquire'' the album ahead of time.

Hellzapoppin  said about 3 months ago:

It be on the same blog blake3030 posted for Oren action :]

Will never really be able to get excited about this extreme noise stuff. I am enjoying listening to 'My Melancholy Baby' parts one and two tonight though. Really beautiful, bewitching droplets of guitar.
