Anyone here heard of The Beach Boys?

Have a listen to "Disaster".

Recommended.

This song is seriously sweet. I can't believe how much it sounds like the Wilsons.

bigdaddykane  said about 5 years ago:

wicked false man.

bumcheeksinthewind  said about 5 years ago:

pretty cool.

hillsonghoods  said about 5 years ago:

I dig the Besnard Lakes a lot, but I don't think they sound that much like the Beach Boys, except that he's singing in falsetto and there's some attempt at orchestration - sounds to me to be more along the lines of the Flaming Lips. if you want Beach Boys soundalikes, the High Llamas and Ruby Suns are pretty good.

devilwillride  said about 5 years ago:

The non-falsetto voice sounds a lot like Brian Wilson. That's what made me think of The Beach Boys.

Spunk are going to be releasing this album in Oz on April 28th

hiponion  said about 5 years ago:

I can't get over how rad this record is. How are more people not talking about it?

Goal attack  said about 5 years ago:

Every time I red the thread title I think of whacky rockers The Barenaked Ladies:

Heinrich  said about 5 years ago:

I read it as barenaked ladies too. The only reason i opened the thread was to express my hatred.

Goal attack  said about 5 years ago:

besnard lakes' myspace stuff sound nice, but too in thrall with the Beach Boyz.

joeboy  said about 5 years ago:

electricsound  said about 1 year ago:

nice!

outoftheaircrash  said about 1 year ago:

I love it how Jace's face is so comical, and a total contrast to the music the play. Hysterical.

ChrisBrimstone  said about 1 year ago:

he looks a bit like Weird Al in that first photo

toadphoney  said about 1 year ago:

Lefties are ace.

poprocks96  said about 1 year ago:

How old is he?

bigdaddykane  said about 1 year ago:

interstellar_appeal  said about 1 year ago:

i feel like a douche for not seeing 'em in brisbane, hate going solo at gigs though so i'll blame it on my (lack of) friends.

poprocks96  said about 1 year ago:

Did you make that up? He could pass for anything from 35-60.

outoftheaircrash  said about 1 year ago:

Think it's close to sixty.

'devastation' is my go-to tram song for the days when I'm dreading work. like today.

Still one of my favourite shows of 2011. The Soft Province is Jace and Michael's other project. Worth a listen for Besnard fans

electricsound  said about 7 months ago:

the soft province album is really good, i've been listening to it a lot this year

the new besnards ep 'you lived in the city' is a weird stopgap - two instrumental tracks and the lead song 'we're here for a good time not a long time' is taking a bit of time to warm to. and not enough jace vocal!

strangecousin  said about 7 months ago:

Hmmm that one got past me, I'll have to check it out.

electricsound  said about 7 months ago:

more info here

apparently it's a soundtrack thing, and the opener is a cover version, so it all makes more sense to me now

strangecousin  said about 7 months ago:

Yea I visit the Jagjaguwar site fairly regularly, its pretty much my favourite label, which was why I was surprised to miss that. Looking forward to having a listen and also a better listen to the soft province album, I've only heard it through my crap computer speakers so far. It must be time for another jagjaguwar order soon, I like almost all their bands. I think I found them via Black Mountain originally

bigdaddykane  said about 7 months ago:

EP in the gmail. Soft Province too.
