In Advance of The Broken Arm is awesome.

myspace

Saw her in NYC with Lightning Bolt and at SXSW, and I pretty much love the shit out of her!! For the uninitiated, she's like Cameron Diaz playing Deerhoof songs thru the Fucking Champs with an ipod for backing, with the backing played by a dude in a band called hella.

She's so so so rad!!! Feel it!

Do it! You need to see her playing, she nods her head & looks at the crowd like 'holy shit, can you see this?', it's really quite endearing.

the power of 666  said about 4 years ago:

And yeah, Zach Hill does all of her drums and production. Hella rad!

the power of 666  said about 4 years ago:

yay marnie!

sounds good.

blake3030  said about 4 years ago:

Sounds like a cross between Lighting Bolt and the YYYs.

Pretty cool.

unvisible  said about 4 years ago:

Fucking hell. Those songs sound totally awesome.

bigstar  said about 4 years ago:

just got it from gmail

ORRRR-SUMMMMM

socks  said about 4 years ago:

For a good while I thought this was crap - mostly because I'm sort of sick of Zach Hill's drumming (yes, yes, blasphemy - I know). But tangled up in all the fret-tapping spasticity there are just some sweet mathy pop songs in here, and the vocals totally make this music. This is the stuff of my post-teen dreams. Oh Marnie.

the power of 666  said about 4 years ago:

Put All Yr Eggs In One Basket And WatchThat Basket is a great song, regardless of trickeries. Duth luv!

socks  said about 4 years ago:

This is so much better than The Ladies (yet another of Zach's projects). You sort of wonder though - I mean, the guy does pretty much the exact same thing in all these bands. Hmmm. I guess the same could be said of Damon Ché or whatever. Haha.

Goal attack  said about 7 months ago:

Who's bringing her out?

ocelotl  said about 7 months ago:

Hmm, this (Sydney, 6 Oct) says Popfrenzy Presents, but their site doesn't mention a tour. Hopefully soon. Perth show link here.

ocelotl  said about 7 months ago:

And... just found Northcote Social Club, Fri 7 Oct. Jeez do I have to put this tour schedule together myself?

untold/animals  said about 7 months ago:

Yes, and then you have to have a big penis.. see above.

hwct  said about 7 months ago:

excellent news.

Ben  said about 7 months ago:

yeah.. cant wait!

jbiz  said about 7 months ago:

Is she touring with a band? Come on, October!

ocelotl  said about 7 months ago:

So, details from Popfrenzy as follows:

Marnie Stern Australian Tour 2011

In servitude of bubblegum-pop-art-metal delirium we have the stunning Marnie Stern coming all the way from the U.S. of A. for the first time this OCTOBER. As her 2010 self-titled album (Kill Rock Stars) shows, what makes Stern better than other guitar wizards is her uncanny ability to somehow transform the most complicated guitar acrobatics into beautiful, concise pop. Man can she shred!

Thursday, October 6 | Tone, Surry Hills, Sydney Tix via popfrenzy.com.au and moshtix.com.au

Friday, October 7 | Northcote Social Club, Northcote, Melbourne Tix via northcotesocialclub.com

Saturday, October 8 | The Bakery, Northbridge, Perth Tix via lifeisnoise.com

No band details mentioned, but this tour blog names the band as Marnie (shredder), Nithin (bass), Vince (drums), Courtney (TM), and Fig (wonderpup). No Zach. :((( Pity. But still excited!

untold/animals  said about 7 months ago:

Do you think 'TM' is short for 'ta mbourine'?

Northcote Social Club will probably not seem quite right as a venue but I'm glad she's comin' and I'll try and go if I can. Hope Popfrenzy don't hafta start handing out freebies for this like they have a lot lately.

ocelotl  said about 7 months ago:

Well that would be some bullshit. $25 tix, and Marnie is amazing. For those who need convincing: myspace.

nishiki  said about 6 months ago:

remembered this was happening. hot damn. now the age-old 'do i go to the melbs or sydney show' decision.

ocelotl  said about 4 months ago:

This week!

Goal attack  said about 4 months ago:

Think I'll go tonight, hope it ain't sold out

untold/animals  said about 4 months ago:

Jesus, I had no idea. Surprised if this sold well actually. Hasn't been the most visible tour and there is buttloads of shit on tonight including a split single launch, a sold out Melbourne festival gig, a venue launch and a hipster techno night.

ghoti-max  said about 4 months ago:

Fuck off life, I was bored as all fuck last night and had no idea she was in town.

Goal attack  said about 4 months ago:

I was tipping Mono would take a chunk of the crowd

ocelotl  said about 4 months ago:

Well that was a sadly sparse crowd, the emptiest I've seen the NSC. Was everyone at Mono? Anyway, it was fine... felt like there were only a few great songs though, band felt a little too loose for my liking, I love the math-tightness of the records so I missed that. They seemed a bit glum at first but sparked up soon enough, complete with terrible stage banter. Marnie seemed to be having fun, she's a lovely performer to watch... both because she throws herself into it, and cos she's kinda pretty, has to be said. I found myself reminded of the Breeders a few times, which never crossed my mind before... possibly because the bass was more prominent.

Anyone go in Sydney? Was the turnout OK?

Goal attack  said about 4 months ago:

Agreed. Place was empty as, but those who were there were into it. Banter was shocking in a cute way

nishiki  said about 4 months ago:

disappointing to hear the turnout was so weak. gutted that i missed it due to location and funds.
