how long did it take you to make this insane flying machine.

Not too long.. Spent a few hours doing it to the point where I had most of the frame in 3 bits.. then I got the call from the promotions girl saying could I do a photoshoot the next morning, so I told her it was ready and spent about 6 hours that night and a couple the morning after.

Gonna finish it tonight - I'll drill holes through my mop and broom handles and reinforce it with them, so it doesn't buckle once it gets my weight under it.

Not at the main prize, some of those guys are serious... there are 3 ways to win stuff:

1 - Furthest distance. Flights + 4 nights accomodation in Honolulu
2 - Most points (distance, style and aerodynamics). $1000 in jetstar flight vouchers.
3 - "Craziest" entry. 2 return flights to Byron Bay

I think the only one I have a reasonable chance at is number 3. There are 22 entrants and you can't win more than one prize, so I just need to be crazier than the other 19. I'm gonna throw my own faeces at people - they've gotta pay out on that?

Only Birdman rally I know of.

No Byron for me but it was a beautiful controlled flight with only a mild amount of water swallowing.

Just had a couple of hours kip and I'm about to head back to Golden Plains, which I left at 5:45 this morning to get here for Birdman. The festival was rocking nicely and looking forward to tonight.

Golden Plains was actually invented to keep the scenesters safely away from birdman rally, lest their hair product cause further pollution in the Yarra.

After a few weeks I got a broadcast-quality dvd through from the organisers. It is testament to my procrastination that I still haven't got round to putting it on youtube so my family can see it. I've thought about it though and it is just next to my computer, should motivation strike.

is it true there's only 15 people entered? surely the cast of underbelly could have a crack and channel 9 could try and get some ratings
