Primitive Calculators LIVE!

hand hell  said about 4 years ago  or at  2:36PM on Friday, March 2 2007 in events

Freeking fuck!

There doesn't seem to be a thread about this yet (prove me wrong!)

The Primitive Calculators are reforming and launching their ace new comp at The Wintergarden Room (The Exford Hotel) in Melbourne on Thursday 8 March.

Well fuck me dead!

This is gonna be ace!

michael_horse  said about 4 years ago:

wait, did i see them at cherry a while back ?
i forget

Gorn  said about 4 years ago:

Is this for real, or was that just a mistake in Inpress?

VoxFuzz  said about 4 years ago:

Oooooh.

Match reports here please.

Gorn  said about 4 years ago:

I thought Inpress fucked up and said they were playing, when really it is Fabulous Diamonds doing a covers gig

Gorn  said about 4 years ago:

From Fabulous Diamonds' Myspace:

CAN'T STOP IT II CD LAUNCH w/ THE GLITTER KIDS (AUST PST PUNK COVER BAND FEAT. FAB D, LAKES, OH!BELGIUM, JEMIMA JEMIMA, CRAYON FIELDS ETC. MEMBERS) + FABULOUS DIAMONDS + DJ GUY BLACKMAN & DJ PRIMITIVE CALCULATORS (!!!!) FREE ENTRY., HOTTT>

hand hell  said about 4 years ago:

Really? Fuck....somebody give me the straight dirt here! Because this clashes with David Kilgour gig at Prentice Street and I can't tear myself in two.

hand hell  said about 4 years ago:

Gorn. Aren't Crayon Fields playing the David Kilgour gig. I'm confused.

Gorn  said about 4 years ago:

Who knows... maybe i'll send FD a message and get them to set this shit straight!

mswahili  said about 4 years ago:

Re-forming?! Y'reckon?
I know the Prim Calc / Can't Stop It vol. 2 launch is happening that night, but I don't think they'll be getting back together again. Denise isn't into playing music any more, for one thing.

Gorn  said about 4 years ago:

yeah crayon fields are playing the David Kilgour gig

hand hell  said about 4 years ago:

Do it Gorn, or I won't be able to sleep tonight.

mswahili  said about 4 years ago:

whoah, I'm slow. Gorn's right I'd say - Glitter Kids played the last launch too. Sounds like it'll be awesome though, lotsa young'uns on stage, lotsa oldies in the audience...

hand hell  said about 4 years ago:

mswahili.....way to shatter my illusions.

I picked up Inpress and got all excited and now I'm deflated.

giantsquid  said about 4 years ago:

There is no reformation, but there will be some fine bands providing music anyway ahem(clearing throat noise), though members of the Primitve Calculators should be DJing I believe. Anyway it is THE GLITTER KIDS and FABULOUS DIAMONDS who are playing live. Will be really good. Lots of oldies I hope to meet there. PS. The 2 new CD's out on Chapter are fucking incredible. As in they need to be owned, listended and pawed over etc.

It is still something to be excited about and uh .,.... enjoy. More so enjoy.

hand hell  said about 4 years ago:

I am actually disappointed.

Really!

giantsquid  said about 4 years ago:

Dave Light still plays music live occasionally I believe in a group called The Moths...there used to be a page about somehwere

adamdmills  said about 4 years ago:

read it properly: DJ PRIMITIVE CALCULATORS

i don't think they're reforming.

shame.

sister  said about 4 years ago:

hmpf

jeez handhell

hand hell  said about 4 years ago:

AdamD, I based this on an Interview with Dave and Denise in Inpress which led me to believe it was a live show. I was wrong.

Nothing to see here. Move along!

ChapterMusic  said about 4 years ago:

hey dudes, here's my official word as the boss of everything - no prim calcs reformation, just glitter kids tribute band and fabby ds. but yes, dave light from prim calcs is djing, denise and frank will be there, as will a host of post-punk legends from bands on both can't stop it cds.

and if you wanna go see david kilgour, all the live entertainment should be over by 10.30 so you can scoot down after to see him. i wish i could see him myself, but i'll probably see him with yo la tengo anyhoo!

hand hell  said about 4 years ago:

Thanks Guy. I'll try to make it to both. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Mess+Noise  said about 4 years ago:

Review of the new Chapter Prim Calcs album.

secretsquirrel  said about 4 years ago:

chaptermusic...live entertainment at the david kilgour will be over at 11pm. shame about the clash cos i would love to go to this too. sounds like its one or the other.

unvisible  said about 4 years ago:

once i snuck up and pushed ringo starr into a jukebox and it was a Beatles DJ Set 4 Eva and I made a million bucks and you should have been there but you weren't because you suck but i'm sure this thing will be seminal anyway.

jimmytrash  said about 4 years ago:

NNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

i just got a review copy of the album and it rips me in two.

THIS ISNT FUCKING FAIR:

i miss australia.

Charles  said about 4 years ago:

Great news!! Primitive Calcs music is incredibly beautiful....jesus christ HandHell you have good taste. Thanks for the newsflash mate.

Mike Horse you on the other hand are a non-musician jack off and your response to Rene's thread is puerile. Go hang out with your commie girlfriend Lokihanns.

hand hell  said about 4 years ago:

I love you Charles!

djbollocks  said about 3 years ago:

Nice review Frankie. Looking forward to seeing them at ATP.

anok  said about 3 years ago:

where would i have seen denise hilton before? more recent bands?

kuroneko  said about 3 years ago:

Denise was really nice. I was talking to her for a bit before I realised who she was.... I think I came across as a bit of a fangirl as I was banging on about PC for a bit... oops.

mswahili  said about 3 years ago:

I love that I was eventually proved wrong in this thread!
Pity I couldn't see the show on Sunday. And I won't be going to ATP either.

:(

anok - denise hasn't been playing in bands since the 80's. Dave has been in several different groups though. At least that's what they told me... both really nice people every time we've spoken.

Block  said about 3 years ago:

Hmm, I'm guessing you don't mean her time in Thrush and the Cunts?

Friday 3 Sep 2010 9:00PM. + The Paul Kidney Experience + Adam Simmons vs Brian O'Dwyer feat Kris Wanders @ Yah Yah's, Smith Street, Collingwood.

FrankieTeardrop  said about 1 year ago:

What time d'youse reckon Calculators would be on? I'm trying to multi-task.

Ron  said about 1 year ago:

I reckon they'll be on from 11.30pm-12.10am (though it says ''12.10pm'' here). I also reckon The Paul Kidney Experience will be on from 10.30pm-11.10pm and Adam Simmons vs Bryan Dywer (with guest Kris Wanders) will be on from 9.30pm-10.10pm.

Doors open at 9pm and it will cost $8, with bands taking a $3, $2, $1.50 split. The venue will shut at 5am and has a capacity of 250.

Bands will be presented through various Shure sm58s, Beta 57s and DIs running through a 16 channel Allen Heath Mix Wizard mixing console with Klark Teknix DN360 31-band equaliser and 4 x Pro Series Sony compressors to a 1500 watt three-way PA (Nexo PS15s with Camco amps) and 3 x foldback wedges (Quest,RCF) on two sends. Could be the best night ever!

FrankieTeardrop  said about 1 year ago:

Thank you very much for this comprehensive information, Sir Ronald. Although you forgot to mention soundcheck time, rider and door list details.

Ron  said about 1 year ago:

I left the rider information out on purpose as it is a JOKE. As if a band of our stature should be forced to a) find some guy and then b) talk to some guy.

Soundcheck time, Primitive Calculator groupies, is 5pm.

buffytufnel  said about 1 year ago:

OMG This is happening right now. I'm supposed to be there. Lucky I'm only three dorrs away right now... CU all very, very, very soon.

PS Ben is reading a book on Duchamp, which will no doubt flavour is playing.Me and Troy are sick in the head, Nell is perty, Don is On, everyone in the band will be there. I will be thinking of Dimitra. Good thoughts. You should too.

No Rain! No Rain! No Rain! No Rain! No Rain! No Rain! No Rain! No Rain! No Rain!

Hellzapoppin  said about 1 year ago:

Great times last night. The Jackson cover was superb.

Carbie  said about 1 year ago:

The Primitive Calculators were BLOODY FANTASTIC! They ripped into 2 covers. When I say ''ripped'', they STOMPED, through those songs against Yah Yahs' red walls and flushed them down the dunny! Starting with a total deconstructed version of Michael Jackson's Bad & also KC & The Sunshine Band That's The Way I Like It. Wanna see a HD Video of last night?
