Rob Roy : A Live Compilation

rob roy a live compilation

‘rob roy a live compilation’ features six tracks, all recorded live at the Rob Roy, a live music venue in Fitzroy, Melbourne. Local Melbournites My Disco, Laura, Grey Daturas, Sinking Citizenship, International Karate and seminal band Colditz Glider appear on the disc. Local producer / live engineer Nao Anzai recorded, mixed and mastered the disc.

“Having a venue like the Rob Roy can often be taken for granted, it's intimate, engaging, and having Johnny Cash stare us down from the back wall rules! Oh, and the mirrors were frightening on stage 'cause if I looked (and who doesn't right?) I saw a right-handed guitarist staring back at me!”

Ben, My disco

"A thing I always enjoy about playing at the Rob Roy is the eye-opening experience of actually being able to see yourself play. Yes, thanks to the mirrors on two sides of the stage, every stupid face, naff stage move and inadvertent fist pump is there for you to see as it happens. You can't help but look at your own reflection and think ‘why am I standing here, with my foot on the fucking foldback.’ We love playing at the Rob Roy."

Mark, International Karate

"Ahh the Rob Roy, what can I say? Grey Daturas have had so many memorable shows there with the likes of My Disco, Clan Zu and Wolf and Cub. One night we played there, this show was amazing, we got so mega pissed that we nearly passed out on stage. The show, in which this recording was taken from, is actually the only document of when Grey Daturas were a 4-piece band. I’m hoping the recording of us captures the insanity, I think it does; it sounds pretty noisey and fucked up."

Robert, Grey Daturas

“It was a few months after the first pink polo shirt was spotted on Brunswick st and the Punters had become Bimbos. It seemed like every place in town was getting their carpets cleaned, and the ever increasing threat of gentrification was marching onward to the throbbing pulse of a DJ set. It was dire times, but the word got round that a pub on the forgotten end of Brunswick St had a good PA and a nicely sized room. The bands ran to it like ants to a dry patch in a pool of piss.”

John, Sinking Citizenship

“I’ll never forget the Laura show we played at the Rob Roy with Season and School of Emotional Engineering. It was 6th May 2005. It was packed, the entire place had to be closed to the public. You couldn’t move at all! Andrew Y (Laura) spent most of the SOEE set throwing beer at front man, Ben Frost and laying across his FX units. Frost replied in kind when it was our turn to go onstage.”
Dave, Laura

isn't there another thread about this?
i've discussed this before...

bradmurray  said about 5 years ago:

There was, but the formatting was all wrong. So I made another that makes sense.

anok  said about 5 years ago:

why are colditz seminal and the others not?

tilljames  said about 5 years ago:

valid

bradmurray  said about 5 years ago:

Anok. All the bands are influential and notable, but in particular, Colditz Glider are a band of note, that no longer exist.

The Colditz Glider track is one or their late, if not last recordings ever.

bradmurray  said about 5 years ago:

Gauzo, where was your live recording recorded?

McGauz  said about 5 years ago:

rob roy... remember donkeys ago when the idea for this live cd came about.. you recorded heaps of folks... Season and Oneironaut were also recorded, by Nao... I probably just never gave you a song because Nao never finished mixing them. I never heard the Oneironaut gig anyway.... but I still have all the Season stuff. I have about 4 or 5 "live @ the rob roy" gigs on my iPod, either recorded by Nao, or onto MD when Jeremy was mixing us.

bradmurray  said about 5 years ago:

mathieson  said about 5 years ago:

One month ago: "rob roy a live compilation will only be available at these two shows!!!"

bradmurray  said about 5 years ago:

Yeah, it was only available at the shows, but we have some left over. And I have been getting emails from people who want a copy - I was doing postal orders, but it's easier to direct people to a record store!

Oklele  said about 5 years ago:

i noticed them in missing link on friday and thought "i should have known it would be available"
